Parking at DVC Resorts

You and I are on the same page. Just POLITELY tell me i need to park somewhere else and i will. rules change and unlike some people i don't have time to read every rule before vacation, that is why it's a vacation, i have a busy life to escape from. I showed her my current DVC member card, my current KTTW card, and my current SSR parking pass. All I'm saying is tell me that's not the rule and don't be a @#$% about it. As far as this being a hot topic on here, some people get way too upset about topics that don't effect them personally.
However, there was never a rule it was OK just for being a DVC member or staying elsewhere and what someone was told during a sales attempt or by a CM along the way really has no bearing or meaning on what's expected or allowed. CR has always been the most difficult in parking. I remember reports of people being turned away who had dining reservations.

:thumbsup2 to both points you are making! No need to be rude! and not sure how the pool comment relates.
Agreed, no reason to be rude but we weren't there and all we have is one side of the story. I suspect the pool hopping issue was brought up as an example of a situation where people don't understand or follow rules and where there is a risk of a negative answer at some point along the way.

Wow, people love to take things and head in an entirely different direction with them.

1. My wife used a word I would not use here in the car with me after the experience
...

I didn't see anything in your original post about your wife making the comment to you in the car afterwards. You just said:
The woman today was so rude my wife used a word I can't use on DisBoards.

So there are two sides to rude. We don't have anything from the guard and you had to clarify what your wife said. You may have come off rude to the guard as well. And, I'm sure they get it all the time, "I'm a DVC member who owns at BLT and was told I could park here."

I think people are being a little hard on the original poster. I took what he said about his wife to mean that she used colorful words to describe how they were treated. I have experienced rude CastMembers before, and they certainly do exist. once when staying at the Treehouse Villas I followed a bus into the resort and the castmember stopped her bus for 5 minutes on the narrow road preventing me from passing. Then she waked back to my car to tell me she was "teaching me a lesson" for not using a Key to the World card to enter the resort.
The gate stayed open once the bus went through so i just drove through. and, more importantly I was staying there! As a former Cast member I know we are not trained to treat guests this way. Often when people are given a position of authority (however meager) they think it gives them license to be rude, when really they should be polite but firm.
When I was in college I worked at Disneyland and often did guest control during the Electrical Parade. I had guests in my face all the time, and I was never rude. I was always polite but firm and never had one guest complaint.

Read that little booklet you get when you check in as a DVC member..portable perks I think?? Anyway, if it says you can park at any resort, for any reason then sure, go ahead. But I don't think it does.
The OP may very well be 'remembering' the fact that we got free valet parking as DVC members...so could park pretty much at any resort that had valet parking free. But, that was taken away years ago!

As an owner at both BLT and BWV, I really do wish that Disney would change the lots at the deluxe resorts. Make the main lot room key accessible only. Then, have a smaller lot that anyone can park in. But, leave the majority of the lot for those of us paying to stay there. Just because someone is staying at Kidani, does not mean they get to park at BW all day....even if they are DVC owners. I've returned late afternoon and found no spots close up. Had to head to the more distant spots in order to park. But, if you watch, you'll see a ton of cars pulling out of the lot about 15 mins after IllumiNations ends. Wonder why that is???

in 13 years of DVC ownership we've not had any significant parking issues other than my being lazy and wanting the closest possible parking space. This thread did pique my curiosity so I decided to revisit the documentation we received i.e., the membership guide, benefits, perks, etc. Alas, the word "parking" is absent. I do recall, as has been mentioned several times previously, that DVC members, as onsite guests, receive free parking at the theme parks. As per the Disney's Mom's Panel (http://disneyworldforum.disney.go.com/questions.aspx?sort=&page=&qid=171467&pid=43&cid=142) "I have some GREAT news for YOU! Parking is FREE at all of the Disney Parks for Disney Vacation Club members who are staying at one of the incredible Disney Vacation Club Resorts and Villas!
When you check-in at your Disney Vacation Club resort, a Cast Member will give you a parking pass to put on the dashboard of your car. This parking pass will allow you to park at any of the Disney Parks for FREE. How easy and convenient is that?!"

I think people are being a little hard on the original poster.
I don't think so, what I see is someone who is under a false impression of the resort parking rules who admitted they already knew CR was an area that was not friendly to parking by non guests. The CM may or may not have been rude, we don't know because we weren't there. I reviewed the responses, I don't see anything on a quick review that was out of line but I'm open for specific examples.

I have to concur with Dean. Even if "people are being a little hard on the poster" its just the occupational hazard of posting to a forum. In this situation the original OP apparently "doesn't know what he doesn't know" regarding this issue and is attempting to save face by posting to this forum, hoping to elicit responses that would validate their behavior and what he believes to be a DVC perk/benefit. Long time DVC owners are well aware of what is included in the DVC Benefits document and often times lose patience with those DVCers that attempt to subvert them. That reflects poorly on all of us. As to the report that a CM was rude and unfriendly I find that to be somewhat out of the ordinary. I think in all the years we've visited Disneyland & Walt Disney World Resort, going back to 1975, we've only encountered one cantankerous CM. His name is "Grumpy!" :rotfl2:

I own at BLT and BWV and find the parking enforcement to be stricter at BLT. There is no other way to walk directly into the park (other than buses)...and any other means of transportation puts you through the TTA.... so many people from other resorts are trying to park in that lot.

It's unfortunate that you perceived the Security guard as being rude, but I am sure he has heard the same excuses from others trying to infiltrate the parking lot. It must be tiresome for him.

I know you are on Disney property, but the employees are only human, just like you. So nobody is going to be perfect every day, all the time.

I know that when I am trying to "get over" , or whatever term you want to use, I give it my best shot and if I don't succeed I walk away with a smile and say OH WELL, I TRIED , I don't blame the poor guy just trying to do his job.

I would add that by the OP's own admission, as I read it, their main goal was MK parking. That they also ate there really has no bearing. I'm quite sure any member either knew or should have known that parking there for the main purpose of visiting MK was not appropriate. I'm convincing myself that the CM should have been very stern to the point of chastising in this situation if I'm understanding the situation correctly.

WDW transportation is so easy I would never drive to a resort or adr. I will be visiting in June on business and staying off site, since I have an ap I will most likely park at ttc for the parks and of course dtd if dining there.

We're the opposite. Other than if we're heading to one park and returning from another OR for MK due to the TTC parking; we drive every chance whether on or off property. I don't see it as easy at all to get from one resort to another for a meal or other need.
