Parking at DVC Hilton Head

We've been to Hilton Head twice in the last 30 days. All was fine except parking. Our experience was that about half of the parking places (at least near our units) seemed to be taken by cars that did not have parking passes for DVD HH, but had other indications that they were local vehicles. It appears to me that the boat owners / users at the marina are parking their cars long term in our Disney property, even though the sign says they are only allowed 20 minute parking.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I didn't notice a problem last time we were there, but that was the summer of '06. We are going back in month and I'll be sure to take a look. I'm not a huge fan of having to walk great distances, carrying all kinds of stuff, because someone is parking in stalls they shouldn't be.

We were there earlier this month. How can these people be parking in the parking lot when you need your card (room key) to open the gate??

They can get in the gate by "buzzing" the front desk and saying that they are boat owners who need to unload. As you have noticed, they ARE allowed to do that, but do have a time limit.

I know that in the "peak" periods, the resort enforces the rule. During the summer, sometimes there is barely enough room to park all the cars for the guests! (I know we contribute to that because we have more than one car when the family comes.)

Did the cars in question prohibit you from parking close to your villa? If so, you should report it to the front desk so that they can have security check it out.

I did report it, as we had to park two villas down from ours. The response was that they are having trouble enforcing the 20 minute rule and that DVC employees were presently also parking in the are near our villa.

I was asking on this forum because I wondered if it was just an isolated incident, or if it was becoming a bigger issue. We've always gone to HH in October in the past and never had parking issues then. Recently we were there in late April / early May when we had the issue.
