Parkhopper Insurance question Re: Canceled trip

I have a question... I have been thinking of purchasing our parkhopper passes now, for an upcoming trip, but the FINE print on websites such as ARES and Flightcentre.ca all make me cringe, as tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Apparently, the credit card we would like to use that has travel insurance only has trip interruption, and not trip cancellation.

Another credit card company says we can buy trip cancellation, but that it probably doesn't cover tickets for a theme park, likely covers only airfare and accommodation.

How can anyone purchase $1000 of tickets for a family of 4 and not be concerned?

Does anyone have any solutions? I would have thought Disney wouldn't care about changing dates, as long as we paid the difference if we had to change it to a higher priced time, etc., but I was told it is simply a non refundable purchase. :scared1:

I used to purchase the air miles Disneyland Park Hoppers, and they worked well, they were the actual physical ticket, but I would rather save my air miles for flights now. At least the date on them was good until the end of the year.

I think Getawaytoday offers a cancellation policy for $10, but their tickets are a bit more than they are at Flightcentre. I can get an extra day with Flightcentre for a similar price to Getawaytoday.

Curious to know what others do, to protect their parkhopper purchase in the event of a change of travel dates, etc.

Thanks! :goodvibes

We typically buy ours at the last minute through DIsneys website and they are emailed to me.

Non refundable isn't neccessarily non refundable. I've purchased the wrong tickets and they've refunded the tickets so I could purchase the right ones. I know a group where one in the party couldn't go and they were issued a refund for the extra ticket at the park. If your trip was cancelled you could use the tickets at a later date. If they expire before the new trip you may be asked to pay any price difference.

If you buy through the Disneyland website, you don't have to choose a date, but you do have to use the ticket before it expires (end of the year, I believe for regular tix and sometime near the end of May for the promo ones).

I bought our tix through getaway today last year, then my mom had a stroke and we had to postpone our trip. They were nice and didn't charge me a change fee and let me put the money into a gift certificate to use w/ them later (not a refund, but we still needed to buy tix 5 months later anyway).

I must recommend the disneyland website, though. The ticket booths were able to replace a lost ticket for someone in our group last week, which was awesome.

If that (bolded part) were true, I would be very happy, as we would plan on going again ASAP if we needed to cancel plans for a set time. I think when you are not purchasing through Disneyland Parks directly, each company puts certain restrictions on their passes, such as no refunds/changes to dates. On the flightcentre.ca it mentions tickets valid until Dec. 31st with some blackout dates but when I spoke to 2 different reps., I was told that the dates had to coincide with the dates I told them.

Starshine, I hope your Mom was ok, and I am glad they were able to change your tickets with no fee. I like that the $10 fee they have is so minimal, it's worth it for peace of mind.

Can anyone vouch for whether or not you can still upgrade a 6 day pass to a 7 day pass for around $5 more? (Canadian.) Would I have to try to get my name placed on an exception list, etc.? Thanks, if anyone knows.
