We are planning a Feb 2015 trip for a family of 4. I have priced out 4 day P2P tickets on the Universal site and UT. UT is cheaper and then I see we can get a $30 AMEX statement credit and can do this twice since we both have cards. I have also been waiting for a deal like a free park day to come along. Then I got to pricing the Power Pass. This seems reasonable given we'd have quite a bit of time on arrival and departure day to use this. And we might even get back again once in the year we have to use our pass. So my question is this. I have tried to read all that I can about the 'credit' amount we get for our tickets (inside park vs outside park?). I am trying to save money so wondering if it is best to get the best deals on the P2P tickets and upgrade later (on our first day in the park?) or just pay the cost of the Power Pass (I'm guessing there are not ever any deals or discounts on this?).

I appreciate any insight in to this. I read the board regularly so I have read where people are doing this but I am not sure I understand it all.

I'd buy the get one day free ticket with the AMEX for the discount and then upgrade at the parks. You should be credited for all days.

Yes, INSIDE the parks is where they will bridge or take the price of the gate ticket to the AP ticket price, and you pay the difference between gate and AP to upgrade from your discounted tickets. OUTSIDE the parks, all bets are off. The customer service team members don't know how to bridge or do upgrades at times. So, enjoy the parks, sometime while in the parks, stroll over to customer service and upgrade. It's a great deal if you can get discounted tickets, as Universal has not always allowed bridging, in that the upgrade was from your actual price of the ticket.

Have a great time!

Oh, and I upgraded my kids buy 2 get 2 day tickets to power passes last year. Few dollars and now they are AP holders. I have preferred, so I get free parking and discounts. We also don't go during the blackout times, so power passes for the kids was cheaper.
