We are new DVC member planning our first trip home for March 2013. We have always traveled to WDW using a package (room, park tickets and dining) booked through Disney so forgive me if this question is dumb.

If we were to purchase park tickets from another source could we have those attached to our room key? And another question if a ticket is purchased from another source and we decide to add a day while at Disney could we do so?

Im thinking of undercover tourist (did I totally get that name wrong?).

TIA!

Yes, you can do both.
After checking in, go to the Concierge desk with your KTTW card and your Undercover Tourist ticket. They can print new KTTW keys with your tickets on them. It takes a few extra minutes, but it is good.
You can also add additional days to your ticket.
Have Fun

As Hopefully said, you can. One additional point, any ticket upgrades (which include adding days), must be done within 14 days of first use of the ticket. Also, it you have (for example) a four day ticket. The day you use the fourth day is the last day you can upgrade that ticket.

See post #6 in this thread for details on upgrading MYW Tickets: Everything About WDW Tickets
