Park ticket question

I hope this is the right place to ask, and I know this may be an easy question for most. My mom has a package for 4 nights at Boardwalk Inn with free dining and a 5 day park hopper. She added a night, without the free dining, and I would like to know is she can add a day to her ticket when she arrives at the resort or does she do this before her arrival? Check in date is 11-07-2015.

She can call and add it before the trip.
The cost to add the extra day will be $10.65, including tax.

-OR-

She can do it AFTER she arrives, and AFTER she has actually USED the ticket at least one time to go into a theme BEFORE doing the upgrade.
The cost to add the extra day (after doing the above) will be $10.65, including tax.

Thanks that helps. I think she will wait until she uses the first day to make sure she is up to an extra park day.
