That's it...I HAVE to get a better pair of shoes for park touring. My feet are killing me in my el cheapo sneakers. With our trip coming up this September I would like a nice LIGHT WEIGHT, mesh pair of sneakers to add to my footwear. ANY recommendations? I also have Croc sandals and flip flops that I really like, but I'd be open to suggestions for sandals or flip flops that are comfortable, light weight, dry quickly and have GREAT arch support. As I sit here right now, my right instep does this intermittent burning stabbing pain thing that makes me want to punch someone.

I wear a good flip flop. I also have a pair of Keens. Not cheap--but very nice. I use them for camping and hiking as I need closed toed but hate when my feet cannot have aid. If the flip flip won't work, I would use my Keens for the parks.

I have over-pronation and flat, large feet.

Hmmm..I try to avoid catalog stores as I HAVE to try things on before I buy. Was hoping I could find something at Foot Locker, Modell's, that other sporting good store with the name the DIS won't allow, the Walking Store etc...

I bought a pair of Nike Air Pegasus shoes for my 2012 trip and have been wearing them ever since. Everyone's feet and tastes are different, but I've always had good luck with Nikes.

(ps I got them at that "store with the name the Dis won't allow." LOL)

I get sketchers go with laces and put dr scholles arch supports in them. They have a mesh/breathable material and squishy soles. Wore them last trip and free did not feel as tired as when I wore regular asics tennies (a heavier tighter warmer shoe).

Sorry- meant to type Skechers go walks...

I'm excited to try my new Keens this year. I've been wearing them on walks around the neighborhood and so far so good!!! I like that they're as comfy as my sneakers with air flow BUT they are SOOO ugly.

i have asics kayanos and a pair of gel 1160. if you shop around, you can find them discounted. i paid $65 for my kayanos at an online retailer after trying a pair on at a store.

I wear Teva sandals and I've had good luck with them. You can find them at sporting goods stores and places like DSW.

You helped me so much when I was a new horse owner now I get to help YOU :goodvibes The best advice I can give you is what worked for me. I went to a store that only deals in running shoes. Advice of physical therapist after an accident.

Had a test on a treadmill to see how my feet fall when standing, walking, running, not like that thing you stand on to see what kind of inserts to use that they have at a drugstore. A real test.

I ended up with Mizuno brand Couple hundred dollars but worth a million to me.
I liked the bright colors but you don't have to go crazy. They're light weight, they breathe, no more foot and leg pain :thumbsup2 I will never buy cheap footwear again

I went into a Nike outlet and tried on tons of different shoes. I found one that is very lightweight, and has mesh on the top. You can actually feel a breeze on your feet when you walk. I haven't worn them to a park yet, but I walked all over Las Vegas in them a couple of months ago. I didn't get any blisters or the aching heels that I usually tend to get. I'm going to walk all over San Francisco in them tomorrow. I would suggest finding a Nike store and trying on shoes until you find the right one. My DS also swears by his Nikes.

I always wear reef flip flops in the parks. They're SO comfortable!

Skechers go walks. I have 5 pairs and swear by them. No socks needed, and they are more comfortable than my $150 running shoes. I have orthotics in my running shoes and have really weak ankles, so it's hard for me to find good shoes, but these are awesome.

I like Asics for the arch support but everyone's feet are different.

Try some shopping at local stores and if there's something that really felt good I'd see if they have them on sale at either 6pm.com or zappos.com.

I'm completely behind supporting the local merchants, but the savings could be an extra meal at the world.

Cheers,
--john

I love to wear Chaco sandals in the parks and Chaco flip flops also. They have a great arch support which is huge for me.

Reebok Realflex sneakers. Trust me on this one. They are very lightweight that you forget they are on your foot, as well as breathable. They are the first sneakers I have worn in the parks that my feet didn't kill me at the end of the day and the end of the trip. Same for DBF. This is ALL we will wear in parks. For what it's worth, I'm also taking my RealFlex sandals I wore on our last trip, so comfy! I got stuck in a downpour in the MK in them and no problems! They dried out quickly! Your best bet is a Reebok outlet store if you are looking for these! I used to work at one. The Crossfit slide sandals are good as well and are on sale for 19.99 right now. I think the buy one get one half off in the stores applies to these and the sneakers! Good luck!

PS. I have really high arches and have pain alot and probs and everything works well with the shoes I just endorsed above! :)

I like Teva sandals because the straps are adjustable in case of foot/ankle swelling. I have seen them at DSW and REI if either of those are near you. I also usually pick up some bodyglide and that helps with shoes as well.

OP, I don't know where in the Triad you live, but you might try Off 'n Running- they can analyze your gait and recommend a good sneaker. And Shoe Market has lots of comfort- type sandals. Sorry I don't have any specific recs, but I'm kind of in the market for a good walking sandal myself that isn't horribly ugly, and I figured those are the local places I'll be looking! ;)
