Park Reservations

My adult sons are planning a trip in October of this year with their wives. I am trying to help them when they ask because they know I stalk these boards. When should they be looking to pick their park days and make the reservations? I have not been to Disney since April 2019 and COVID has changed just about everything so I now feel like a newbie when it comes to planning or answering questions.
They will be buying their park tickets as soon as my younger son gets home from D.C. he has been deployed there since January 9th.

I would make the park reservations as soon as they buy the tickets. They can always change them, pending availability of course. But there really is no harm in making them early.

Once they have purchased tickets, the option to make park reservations is available to them on the MyDisneyExperience app. Since they are travelling in October I would recommend making the park reservations ASAP as Oct 1 is the 50th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom so October is anticipated to be popular. October 1 is already full for the Magic Kingdom but all other parks are available and no other parks are full for October park registration, at this time.
