Visited the park yesterday. Brief report (since I have to get moving shortly).

We rope-dropped PP. I was first in line but there was a nice family behind us and it was the mom’s birthday so we offered them our first-place spot.

Oddly, a number of rides were closed just as the park opened. Dumbo, Casey, Jr, Rise, Matterhorn, Buzz. But they opened quickly and we rode Matterhorn immediately after Alice, which was our fourth ride of the morning.

Crowds were good/relatively light early and never got too bad throughout the day.

My first get rounds of Buzz were meh. 1.2M, 1.3M. Then for my third in score 2,040,000. Later I scored 1.9M. I’d lost count/track of my score earlier. Had I not, I would have beat my earlier score. But oh well.

I did the canoes at around 10:30. As many of you know, it’s a bit of a hard sell for CMs to get people on that attraction. One reason is that most people walk by and don’t realize that it’s there. Another is that most guests don’t want to do any “work” while at the park. Totally get that and not a criticism. As many of you know, many guests will board the canoes and decline to row. That can make it a challenge for the CMs who have to take up their slack.

As an aside, I asked what the fastest time was for CMs to compete the river (with only CMs on board). I was told that the existing record is 3:20. There’s still an annual competition among CMs that requires them coming in at 4:00 a.m. to race against other CMs. I think that’s been going on for years. It’s voluntary, of course. It’s done simply for fun.

I’ve got maps, if anyone would like a set. DM me your address if you’re interested.

Some pics. Didn’t take many.

P.S. I’ll attend The Moth tomorrow night (the open-mic storytelling event). I’ve prepared a story and hope to be called - storytellers are chosen at random. The theme will be “Time.” My story is of the time (ahem) when my brother and I (eight and five at the time) sat through a Disney double-feature… twice. We planned to sit through it a third time but the theater was closing. When we walked into the lobby, it was dark and we saw that it was 11:30. We hadn’t planned on being out that late, of course. Or anything close to it. Wish me luck :-).

The Moth is an event at which true stores are told live. It’s done several times a month in 60+ cities around the country. It also has a syndicated radio show, which is heard in 400+ cities. Check it out. Always fun.

Thanks for the pictures! Now I want cupcakes. What time do you arrive for Rope Drop? We never manage to actually get into the park early enough.

Hope you get chosen for your story!

Thanks! I usually arrive at the parking structure around 6:40. We're at the park gates by about 7:15 and they open at 7:30. Rope drop is at 8:00. PP used to be among the most rope-dropped attraction. However, I think it's probably second or third in popularity now since ROTR opened.

I was there on Saturday morning and passed by when I was heading to Galaxy's Edge, and four CMs were out there trying to entice people to the canoes. So they're at least being pro-active, because you are definitely right that a lot of park-goers don't know it's there, especially first-timers. Their enthusiasm and sales pitch was pretty adorable. (didn't work on me, but credit where credit is due for them trying!)

Great report! What would your strategy be after the on-site guests get to go in 30 min early in a couple weeks?

No idea. I've spoken with CMs I know and even thry're not sure if the on-sites will be allowed in early every day. I 'spose I'll simply have to wait and see.

Oh, love all the pictures and your park report. I'm looking forward to paddling the canoes on our next visit. Great scores on Buzz..... we'll be giving it a try for sure. Trying to remember your tips and making an attempt to do a bit better than our last trip. We arrive on Aug 9th the second day of the Early Entry and the 10th will be our first day to try it.

Wishing you good luck & Pixie Dust for getting called at the Moth ✨✨✨✨✨

I thought it had been confirmed that it was both parks every day...
That’s what I thought. But the people I know who work in the park (and have for years) told me that it was still up in the air. I guess we’ll see.

Wow, I have definitely never made it that early to the park. Will be sleeping at at the hotel next visit, maybe I can go see the rope drop and return to Zzz
