Yes, it would be nice to enjoy a park with short lines and fewer guests, etc., but my post really was about looking at this from Disney's point of view. The resorts could in theory open very soon as many hotels/resorts across the country actually never closed and the new protocols would be easier to deploy. They could even limit the number of resort guests, facilities, etc. The parks are a whole diff. ballgame I recognize, but when the resorts open, it would seem like a natural way to test the new systems with a limited number of people. And frankly, the vested real property interest "investment" DVC members made should mean they should have access to the units as soon as such access can be safely arranged. The park access is a bonus, but not part of the legal contract. SO.....once the DVC contracts are being honored again which should be sooner than other Disney elements, my argument was that it seems natural/logical to use those resort guest folks as a testing ground for a soft park opening. While it is true I would/may benefit from the idea (assuming my family does not get ill as a result), I was trying to lay out a logical thesis for which there would be debate on the merits, etc. Yes, there is the argument that everyone is simply laying out their own self-interest as to this subject, but that type of post misses the opportunity for all of us to read a good antithesis for which a synthesis may develop. For instance, one good post indicated that Florida residents should be first as that will limit folks from coming back to the parks from all over the world etc. and limit health risks so cast members can more safely test out the new procedures. That argument has merit, was thoughtful, etc. BUT...don't get me wrong,....silly/fun comments (especially now) are fine too. I just wanted to start a good debate. After all, this is about my/our beloved Disney...so it is No. 3 in importance to me only behind my religion and my family.![]()
I would say reopen first to DVC members from the state of Connecticut, just to throw an idea out there.
See? Everyone has their own prejudiced view of who should be the special ones
i live in CT but am a property holder in Florida and clean qualfy for Florida resident AP, DVC holder and onsite guest at different times. There is no one clear cut group that has obvious preference upon opening
which really means, imho, it has to be the same access or not at all.
ymmv
Agree, on-site guests & only those who agree to temperature checks twice a day at the resort. Easy for WDW to monitor and possibly quarantineI suggest WDW do a soft reopening for several weeks where only resort guests (including DVC guests) are allowed to visit the parks. This would enable Disney to keep the crowd levels to a more manageable #, and practice new safety measures etc. I am game for this since I have June reservation..
Not really easy to monitor/quarantine people. At home in Hawaii, any hotels that remain open are expected to enforce a 14 day quarantine on guests. They can't keep up. Instead, locals are tracking violators of the quarantine on social media and calling up the police to arrest those who are violating the regulations. That's with only 130-ish non-residents a day flying in to the islands.Agree, on-site guests & only those who agree to temperature checks twice a day at the resort. Can you imagine how much more exponentially difficult that would be if some of your guests are quarantined, and some are able to move about freely? How would you know who is which?
Tracking will be done via phones/app/antibody tests.
Economics say resort guests only
Could also include drive to only though parking capacity might be an issue

Before our state was first shut down, DH as an essential worker, was handed a letter to carry to prove he was permitted to be out driving to work. Proactive thing by his employer, but was a wake up call for us as to what may transpire
I was referring to the resorts being akin to a cruise ship situation if an outbreak happens among the guests. We have seen it play out on tv. Entire resort(s) quarantine. Workers in hurricane protocols, sleeping at hotel. A mess all the way around
it’s been hinted via the FL task force meetings, that they are leaning toward limited local guests first into the parks
The virus is everywhere, if you travel by car in a self contained fashion there is essentially no difference than and some one that does the same on a local basis. It will really be how much fidelity guest use in social distancing the 2 weeks before visiting. Flying or other public transportation is a whole other story.Epidemiology says keep travel limited. Local guest, who would likely be sharing the virus between themselves anyway, would be your lowest risk population. And low risk means less liability. And less liability is good economics.
I don't like that, either and I don't see it becoming mandatory by any government. However, it would seem to be legal in the private sector. While I hate the idea of it, I don't see why Disney couldn't require something to enter the parks. Entering a theme park is not a right.Papers or health code? That doesn't sound good to me, I really don't like the idea of having to carry "papers". Sounds like a communist country to me. JMHO

I agree.
I have turned off all location on my phone before this started. My location is nobody's business. This is America! We can't let this get too out of hand where citizens are being tracked. We have to keep our freedoms and keep people safe.
I agree with your post 100%! Just the thought of having to carry papers is a turnoff to me and an idea I hope never comes to fruition in this country.
That being said there are areas of our country now that are using drones to flyover and keep tabs on what people are doing (can find by doing Bing.com search if source is needed). If they find your not following guidelines they are fining you. I agree that we all have to do what is required and necessary to keep us safe and well but sure sounds like "Big Brother" to me. Some states are going too far with what you can and cannot do causing protests. Power to the people!?!? United we stand, divided we fall!?!?
So what happens if you fail a temperature check?Agree, on-site guests & only those who agree to temperature checks twice a day at the resort. Easy for WDW to monitor and possibly quarantine
