Park Planning During Race Weekend

DH runs the marathon every year, and has for the past 10 years or so. We anticipate this year, like last, to be quite busy until Sunday. A lot of runners like to go to Epcot after the race, so we usually avoid that. We always go to AK after DH finishes and we haven't had issues with crowds.

While I know not the same, we ended up at DLR last year on a race weekend and it crazy busy. Like so busy that I didn't even want to be in the parks. And we didn't have any transportation issues (staying at the Grand Californian since all good neighbor hotels were booked). I'm still glad we went, but I will try very hard to avoid a race weekend in the future for any Disney park.

DLR races (which have recently been suspended for the next few years) were always held on holiday weekends (Presidents Day, Mothers Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day) - this combined with the races is a perfect storm for higher crowds. WDW might have a race or two end up close to holidays (like this year's Marathon weekend) but they are not the same weekend.
