Hi, thanks to everyone who posted advice about disposable cameras. I forgot to ask: what is the best speed film for taking outdoor pictures? We will have the digicam with us for indoor & fireworks & lots of outdoor pics, but we want the film kind to hand off to CMs to take pictures of us, etc. I have heard about 800 speed film on the board but have no idea what this is or if I should get it. What is the best speed for outdoor (day and early evening) shots?

Digitals are so easy to use why don't you just use that for everything? Anyway if you do use film I would get 400 speed.

Because I don't want to hand off our brand-new digi cam to a stranger & just hope they don't drop it (not covered in the warranty) or have to explain how to use it if they don't know--disposable cameras are just so low-maintenance. (Did you read the trip report where the guy had his digi cam dropped when he got someone to take a pic of him & his wife? The horror!) Thanks for the film tip!

You just have to be careful not to expose your film to the airport x rays. It would be easier to get a cast member to take your photo. Showing how to take the picture shouldn't be any harder than saying press this button.

Otherwise you need to make sure that you have them do a hand scan of your film or you risk the chance of fogged pictures. Or you could get them developed before you leave.

I know they say 800 or higher but I would be very careful with my film. You don't have that problem with digital. I don't think many people drop their cameras.

I am not flying so definitely don't have to worry about xrays! LOL!
Whether or not dropping is common, it doesn't matter because DH is not going to hand it off. So it is better to have disposable camera pictures of us than none at all!

Do not get 800 speed for outdoor daytime photos. It should be used for low light conditions only. Even then, your photos can have a grainy effect. I have had the best luck with Kodak 200 for bright light shots if the subject is not moving. I say Kodak because I have wasted money on off brand disposables. Sometimes the view finder and the lens don't exactly match up (don't really know how to explain it) and your shot will not come out the way it looked in the view finder. I have had pics come out off center, head cut off, feet cut off, etc. when the shot looked perfect through the view finder.

All this is the reason I love my digital camera - no need to guess of the pic came out or not. I love instant gratification!
