We recently became DVC members and our first trip "home" to VWL is the week of Columbus day in October. Over the last two months I have been looking high and low for discounted tickets. I Have e-bay as one my favorites on the computer. As I have found out it seems almost impossible to get tickets for less the 5% face value. Oh and by the way alot people by tickets on e-bay for more than face value. Makes alot of sense.

My questions is since I now own property in Florida shouldn't I be able to receive those great Florida resident discounts. I know the answer is no but indulge me.

Do you think we can petition DVC or the Florida goverment for a special residency exemption?

 ;) :(

You might already be aware of this but as a DVC member when you are staying at a resort using points you get a 10% discount on Unlimited Magic Passes for you and your guests.
It is not much, but it is better than other people get.
Also if you have a membership in the Disney club or wahtever they call it now, you can get a discount of some kind on park hopper passes.
I know a lot of the other members can post the details on that.
Good Luck

I thought about UMP but we were thinking about enjoying the resort the first couple of days and night fight the holiday crowds. It would make more sense for us to buy a 4 day hopper pass since UMP starts the day of check in and ends the day you leave. As for the Disney Club card once I off set the price of the card I am back to the 5 % discount.

Just thought it would be fun to mess with the Florida Goverment. I figured they need some type of controversy since the counting of ballots is finished.:)

You can exclude the 1st and last day from a UMP. This will be done at the resort when you check in.

As for the FL residents discount, the FL government has nothing to do with it- it is entirely Disney's policy and DVC members are specifically excluded from claiming residency, unless you actually reside in FL.

Good Luck! ;)

I understand exactly what your saying maddiemom. There is another post about feeling like a traitor going to Universal. I don't understand how anyone could feel any guilt about not going to a Disney park. They do absolutely nothing to keep us comming back.
We should at least get the discount that the Disney Club members get on tickets. I would think the FL resident discount is the most logical... "Welcome HOME" Isn't that what they say? I know all the technical info on actually "living there" to get the discount but it would probably put me over the edge and make me buy annual passes instead of the hoppers I buy now. I only go into the parks about 1/2 the days we stay, so right now they are losing my park business. I know they aren't that worried about it but if I'm not in the parks, I'm close to "home" and will eat at least a few meals in our room. If I go to Universal, it wont be additional days there. WDW parks will be left out and we will go to Universal instead.
NOW, If I had my FL discounted annual pass... Why would I go to Universal? Maybe once in a blue moon but I would have breakfast at Cinderellas castle, pop over to France for lunch, dinner at 50's Prime Time Café.
It wouldn't get much better than that.
I don't see this happening any time soon. The powers that be seem to want to squeeze every penny they can out of us. I guess there will come a time when we are pushed far enough that we start eliminating some "Disney" things and going elsewhere. Maybe then they will throw us a bone.

maddiemom, There is another DVC discount on tickets. It was announced earlier this year, I can't remember all the details, but something like over a five year period you get four five day park hoppers..one per year, with one year without (your choice) However, if you didn't use all the days on the park hopper each year the DID expire. Again, I'm sure I'm not recalling all the details..do a search on this board and you'll find lots of threads about ticket discounts, including this DVC pass. IMHO, I didn't think the new DVC discount pass was worth the investment.

If you are going to WDW for more than 8 days each year, check out the AP's. They work out to be the best value for your dollar.

Sorry to say, we don't really have a lot of options for discount tickets. They do offer the two discounts to DVC members (UMP's and the "5 year hopper") but neither of them work for me..so I have the DC card, and order AP's.

Good luck with your research!

DVC Dude Icouldn't agree with you more. We went to WDW last year and stayed at DXL. I have debated just to enjoy the resort and head over to Universal for a couple of days for our first trip "home". I heard Discover has a deal that if you buy two days you get a third day free. Sounds Pretty Good.

It just doesn't make good business sense to me. You have a captive audience and instead of giving them incentives to spend their disposable income at your facility. You have people like me who will debate if I'll spend it Universal, Sea World, etc. It's not like WDW is the only show in town.

Don't get me wrong once I see the Big ball at EPCOT I won't be able to resist. Especially since WDW will start celebrating Walt's 100th Birthday when we are there. I'll fork over my Super Duper Park pass money and do it with a smile. But by joining DVC it is our intention to go to WDW 30 or 40 times in the next 40 years. And trust me a few of those time will be enjoying other Orlando Favorites. If WDW would cut us a little break for our loyalty (and trust me 200 pts at 72 pts is loyalty) I would show my loyalty by eating breakfast at Cinderlla's castle everyday of the trip.

We can only wish upon a star!!!:bounce: :pinkbounc
