I haven't been to DL since the new park opened. We would like to start the day in DL and go over to CA around noon. Is there transportation between both gates, or are they close together? Also, we will be renting a wheelchair for my dad, can you take them park hopping? He can walk short distances, but I'm starting to think we should rent a wheelchair from an independent company.

I'm dreaming of Christmas week in Disneyland, with every Christmas card I write ....

The parks are THAT close together. DCA is the old parking lot if that was infront of DL,

Both parks have their wheelchair and scooter rentals near the entrance gates. You can rent from one park and the same fee will be good for a wheelchair at the other park. I am not sre how they would handle transportation from park to park, but I am sure they will accomadate you in some way.

A few years back we stayed at DL hotel and they let us borrow a wheelchair for the length of stay. They made it clear that we were financially responsible for it though.

Thanks for your reply. We're staying at the Desert Inn across the street, any idea how close of a walk to the gate that is?

We were planning on renting a wheelchair for dad when we first planned the trip months ago. Last month, he fell and fractured his pelvis- luckily not a real bad break. This trip is really providing incentive for him to get better. He is following the physical therapist's orders to the letter. For awhile, we thought we would be canceling, but thank God, he's getting stronger every day.

I've been reading how crowded the parks are Christmas week. I'm sure it will be difficult to push a wheelchair in those crowds. Do you know of anyplace where I can find touring plans to use with a person in a wheelchair? He won't be doing the "wild rides", but my kids and I will, so he'll be waiting nearby with Grandma.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The walk from Desert Inn - walk across the street, through the transit plaza, and a bit more to the gates.....maybe equivalent to a very long cityblock?

Don't know of any tour plans for wheelchair user, but I would say early is the key. I would figure out if there were any popular attractions he wanted to see and attack those first.

If you don't alredy have the guide to disabilities stop by city hal and get one. I would also enquire about speial parade seating dor those in wheelchairs.

Have you tried asking these questions on the Disabilities board? The were quite helpful with my questions.

Also, I believe these folks will drop off a wheelchair or scooter at your hotel door and pick it up as well .

By the way, if he will not be riding major rides, I would base it on the kids and make sure they optimize the use of their fastpasses. (Make sure the kids go on Matterhorn first as it is not fastpassed!!!)
