Park-hopping upgrade?

We are going Prez week and due to ADR's that we are planning along with the Touring Guides we probably won't Park Hop except for when MK has their evening EMH (we don't do AM ones).

We have gotten it every time before but never used them! We tend to stay in one park all day. I will look into the one day upgrade if it can be done.

There is a very simple solution. If you are not absolutely sure you will hop or not, do NOT buy a ticket with the option.

Then, if you decide you need to park hop during your trip, simply add it.

If you make it through the trip far enough, you can then further consider the cost vs. how much use you'll get out of the hopping...say you've only got one day left, you can decide just how bad you want to go back to that other park to justify the $57/$22 (or more depending on price-bridging) cost. Otherwise, you've saved yourself money.

If you are getting special tickets that are not upgradable (YES tickets, etc.), then of course you need to make that decision up-front - but then again, those options are generally cheaper on such tickets.

Former the past 6 years, we've pretty much ALWAYS gotten the park hopper, and hop at least 50% of the time. However, we may consider different options in the future, depending on where we are staying (an Epcot resort, for instance, begs for a hopper since you can walk to two parks...)

We would never not get hoppers. We love visiting one park during the day and ending up in Epcot at night. We’ve been doing that since we used to stay off-site and WDW was a 2 park resort!

Do we know yet if hopping can be added on at a set price or if the person has to pay the difference in price between old and new tickets? That could make a difference for some.

It seems like the general consensus on these boards is that it isn't "worth" the additional cost to park hop. DH and I will be traveling to Disney in two weeks with dd5 and dd20. We have 4 days to spend in the parks. I keep wondering if I should add the park hopper for at least a couple of us. That way DD20 will be able to go off with my husband and maybe go on some of the attractions not geared for little kids. DD20 has not been to Disney in 12 years.

I guess I'd disagree with the conclusion that the general consensus on the DIS is not to hop. After several years on these boards, I think the "hopper vs. non-hopper" issue seems to be split about 50/50. It seems like about half of the folks love hopping and can't imagine getting a ticket without that option. The other half don't hop, either because of their touring style or because of the money.

As others have suggested, I'd recommend not adding the hopper feature to your tickets up front. You can always add it after you arrive and find out if hopping will fit into your plans.

If you decide not to add the hopper after you arrive, you'll save yourself some money, and won't be kicking yourself for spending money up front on something you didn't end up using. That happened to me one year; I added the water parks option to my base ticket, and the weather was so cool we never ended up going to a water park at all! That was about $50 down the drain!

I'm referring to the general case above. I haven't heard anything new on the bridging vs. options.

I'm just thinking the OP might want to be aware that if they wait to add hopping, there's a chance it might be more than the flat $57 fee. Or it might not be.

Thank you for all the feedback. I will follow the advice to wait until we actually want to "hop" before upgrading our tickets. 12 more days until our trip!

I amended the post to add "or more depending..."

we dropped park hoppers at it waste to much time we do a park and stay there all day. we do break up epcot and world showcase as the men don't like it as well as we do...the difference we paid for the hopper bought another days ticket so we had plenty of time

An added "day" on a 5-day (or more) MYW ticket over the past year cost just $8 per ticket.

An added "day" on a 5-day (or more) MYW ticket under the new prices that began this week costs just $10 per ticket.

That's a lot less than the hopper upgrade which, in the recent past, cost $50-$57 per ticket.

OTOH, there is a new price structure on the latest ticket pricing (began this week) that offers BOTH the Hopper AND Water Parks Fun upgrades together for a cost of $79 per ticket.

All prices, plus tax.
