Do you have to go through security again if you park hop? How long it takes from the moment you leave one of the parks to the moment you get in the other

I understand this will vary from day to day but any rough indication?

You do not have to go through security again to park hop and it's like 2 minutes from turnstiles to turnstiles. They're directly across the esplanade from each other.

The two gates literally face each other and both are inside the security zone as is DTD. There is the occasional backup getting into each gate but it really is like one giant park. We do not think twice about hopping back and forth.

gates.JPG How fast do you walk? Wikimapia has the distance from gate to gate about 271'.
The hang-up will be how many others are entering the park when you decide to hop.
So close and really so easy.

For some perspective, the distance from the DL gates to the DCA gates is less than half the distance from the center of the hub to the center of Town Square in Disneyland.

There can be a significant line to re-enter the parks from the esplanade. It's usually worst for us from opening - mid-morning, though it's unpredictable. If you have a reservation or a fast pass time that you're trying to hit, I'd factor in a few extra minutes, especially at those times. Oh and try not to get in line behind me - I always have the knack of picking the slowest line behind the people with the problem tickets.

It's fast! Depends on the line at the 2nd park you are entering.
Try to find a line without strollers. Be prepared to get behind some family with nothing but ticket drama!! Happens a lot!
I also avoid the senior citizen ticket takers. They are adorable but like to talk and visit.

Yep almost missed an FP because I underestimated the line getting back into DL. I don't care so much about parades anymore, so kind of forget that people rush back there(or AP holders arriving just for that) for parades, fireworks, etc. Can be 10-15 minute wait factoring in the strollers that don't have their tickets out, passholders with old pictures, people who forgot a handstamp, etc.
Can be 30 seconds to 30 minutes.

Ugh. We got one (same one - twice!) who, at gate opening when people were booking it to get to the ropes, who insisted on showing my daughter every picture from the tickets he scanned, asked her "Who's that?" and waited for her answer before scanning another ticket. She's nine - it's not like she's a little kid. Just scan the darn tickets, already!

Silly question - It is mentioned that you don't need to enter security again. But obviously you need to show a ticket to show that you can enter that park for the day?

We have actually made it from the very back of DL (Toontown area) to the back corner of California Adventure (pier area) in 10 minutes. We have very rarely hit much of a line at the turnstiles- the exception has been when you hop from one park as the other park is first opening, or if you hop to DL right after WOC when CA is closing, but DL is open another couple of hours. Even then it has not been too much of a wait- we keep our eyes open for the shorter turnstile lines.

Yes- they scan your ticket at the turnstiles when you hop. If you look at the photo posted above, security is not between the parks, it is at the outside edges of the plaza that leads to both parks. So, you go through the same security lines to get into the plaza whether you are going to DL or CA. In other words, looking at the photo above, security is on the left and right side of the photo, not between the two parks.

If you look at the measurement in feet above, that equates to 90 yards from park gate to park gate which is less than the length of a football field.

Since you are familiar with Disney World, the distance between the two parks is about the same as the length of the bridge that connects Future World and World Showcase at Epcot.

Don't forget handstamp if needed cause they check that too.
