Park Hopping - How is capacity determined?

I think we will just save the extra money and go with 1 park a day. I see it being a complete mess at first.
I really don’t think so. With resort reservations dropping off a cliff after the new year, parks won’t be at capacity for months. January and February will be the best times to hop as no park will reach capacity (expect maybe HS on a holiday Saturday or something). People are over thinking the capacity issues too much. Disney made the hopping time 2pm knowing that capacity issues are over by that time most days. Parks thin out by lunchtime, and really the only park that has had true capacity issues since reopening has been HS on weekends with APs coming. And those guests are going for SW and are done by midday. Very few people will be hopping into HS without the ability to go on ROTR. And, I don’t believe, Epcot has ever reached capacity since July and that will be the main park people are hopping to in the afternoons and evenings.

I think the thing to realize here is that Disney allowed full all day long park hopping when the parks were close to capacity. Now with parks way below capacity, I don't see the reinstitution of park hopping being an issue for Disney's operation. It will impact guests because some parks will be closer to capacity but I doubt anyway near 100%. If the parks are at 35%, then adding park hoppers might bring it to 50% at the very most. That could be a problem for guests in terms of wait times with the restrictions but it's not an operational problem. Only on the busiest days of the pre-Covid years did Disney stop letting people in the parks. I just don't see how if it wasn't a problem with much larger numbers how it could now be a problem with smaller numbers (even with park reservations).

I guess I'm missing any benefits to park hopping. Even if they don't reach capacity, the lines have been terribly long for any decent attractions. So not sure why one would even entertain this option. Doesn't cost me anything, just trying to understand the benefits.

The lines are long now. Come January crowds will drop significantly. Lots of people like to park hop, especially to epcot in the evening

A lot of people will travel for MLK weekend. Not sure about anything other than that. I would assume that 1st weekend, the 8th would be busy as well since many kids will still not be back in school.

Yes that weekend alone, nothing compared to right now. This week is referred as hell week in all central Florida theme parks, the busiest time of the year

I would guess, if the park is at capacity you will not be allowed to park hop.
I wonder if there will be something in MDE that will tell you if a park has room to hop to? Without that, you could have very unhappy guests wasting time going to a park they can't enter.
The way things are going as of late means that the only parks available are Epcot and AK ... sometimes just epcot.

Not for after 1/5. There is green availability as far as the eye can see. And just because a random Saturday may be yellow in a specific bucket for HS, doesn’t mean it will be unavailable for hopping after 2pm. Disney knows their metrics and knows that most parks have emptied out quite a lot by noon.

Yeah I think a lot of people are overreacting to park hopping, it'll be a simple process ands aside from DHS on some days I believe all the parks will be easily available

I agree with you. I think Disney decided to start park hopping on Jan. 1 because it begins a period of light attendance, and they'll be able to look at the PH patterns as they get closer to busy Spring Break in March and make adjustments to the process. For instance, they'll be able to look at how many people do enter Epcot after 2 PM to have dinner, which seems to be the most common plan I see posted on these boards.

I think this is also a period of reset for Disney. They can get back into park hopping shedding everything that they didn't like about it pre-pandemic.

Now if they can figure out how they want us to reserve ride times... that would be awesome

They are cutting back the hours.... might not be worth it to Disney unless you parkhop & spend money on booze at Epcot!
