Park Hopping from WDW to UO

TGIF everyone!
Has anyone tried to do it all while in Orlando? We are spending the week before Christmas at WDW, but would like to spend a couple of days at UO.
Thoughts, suggestions, past trip reports, etc.?
Did I also mention we are taking Amtrak down-we live in SC-tickets only $300 total for our family of four and someone else gets to drive!!!! We've never ridden long distance on a train and we wanted our kids to have the experience!

We did Universal last time and are most definitely doing it this time. Harry Potter fans here. We rent a car for the day and hit food shopping on the way back. Have a Magical Time.

We usually do Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in one day. Although this year with Harry Potter I expect the crowds to be more prevalent. We always stay on Disney property, we have taken the Mears Shuttle bus from our hotel to Universal, but I did not like being at the mercy of the bus schedule for pick up. Last few years we just took a cab, about $30.00 each way, but totally worth it to come and go as you please.
