Park Hopper ticket voucher problem

My DH just called with a question from a colleague in his office. Here goes:

** They are leaving for WDW on Saturday. Her adult son no longer can go, and therefore, he won't be able to cash in his voucher. The voucher expires in 60 days as they just picked it up from TA's office today. She called Disney and the CM wasn't able to offer much help, so she suggested she call the ticketing department, but she can't get through. She either wants to give/sell ticket to someone else as it's a 5 day Hopper, or keep it for the next time they go. I told her she wasn't supposed to give or sell her ticket so perhaps this is why the CM couldn't offer any suggestions. If they don't ask for ID, then she should be fine to pick up the Hopper, but if they do, she's out of luck. We haven't been asked for ID each time we switched our vouchers, so perhaps she might be ok, but she wants to get it straightened out before they arrive on Saturday.

If anyone could offer any ideas or suggestions, that would be great!

From my understanding the hoppers themselves never expire, so cash it in anyway. I'm sure there's a way to do that. It's paid for, so really, Disney has no reason not to let it be exchanged.

Thanks for your suggestion, but that's not the problem (it has nothing to do with being paid for or not). They ask for ID when cashing in vouchers, and he won't be present to show his ID and cash in his voucher.

Any other suggestions? Tiger:confused:

I have never heard of a voucher for a 5 day hopper let alone one that expires.

I am very confused.

Maybe things are different here as opposed to the US, but I didn't realize that was the case as I've seen posts in the past talking about ticket vouchers before. Anyway, let me explain.

Vouchers have nothing to do with the length of Park Hopper, but are based on how the travel company distributes tickets. For example, most of our travel agencies here in Canada (Holiday House, World of Vacations which are distributed through Sears Travel and American Express Travel), send vouchers that have to be traded in at the theme park. Every time we buy tickets for Disney, Sea World and Universal, they send vouchers which have an expiry date on them; therefore, they need to be cashed in within 60 days of receipt. That is why we have to give our travel dates when booking, and the travel dates are printed on the vouchers. For this reason, we usually receive our vouchers within 1.5 weeks before departure, plus they need to be paid for 100% at time of booking, and are non-refundable.

I can't imagine why our Canadian vouchers would have expiry dates on them, but not US vouchers. The money is still paid directly to the respective theme parks. Hopefully someone has received vouchers that also have expiry dates on them so that I can help my DH's colleague get some additional information before she arrives on Saturday. By the way, I know that people receive vouchers when purchasing Hoppers at the Disney Store as the CM had to explain the whole process to a customer in front of me last week - so why then have the previous posters asked about vouchers? I guess now I'm confused too!

Maybe I'll try posting on the Canadian board. Thanks, Tiger

Have your son call Disney World and ask to have the pass mailed to his home address. They did this for us when we ordered passes.

do they have the name already on them? if not, i would suggest dad using his own voucher and activating the ticket the first day, then take son's voucher and activate that the second day (w/dad's id)... now dad has ten day park hopper... he can then give it to son for a future trip or save it for himself for a future trip... once it's a ticket, not a voucher anymore, it has no expiry... and therefore can be used on a future vacation...

gigi1313 - Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of that this morning too! I am not sure if they have the same name on them as my DH saw them, but I would assume that his name must be on them as that is why she is having difficulty. I will definitely find out today, and give her this suggestion.

Thanks again for all suggestions, Tiger:earsgirl:
