Park Hopper ticket question..

You absolutely can do this. We did this just this past March, and My boyfriend is doing it again this trip in July. No one can tell you how to use the days you purchase on your ticket. As a matter of fact as recently as 3 weeks ago a CM on The Reservation line double checked for me that we were still able to do this. If you want to visit two parks in one day, and your ticket is not a hopper, it will simply use two separate days on your base ticket. We have done this multiple times. That is what @ptnia was trying to say. I know this, because she is my mother :). She may be new to the boards, but is certainly not new to all things Disney! haha Hope this clears up all of the confusion. It is cheaper to add an extra day on to your base ticket (not stay an extra night at disney world) if you're only going to park hop one day, rather than adding on the park hopper to your ticket since you don't need it every day.
If you were indeed able to do this, you must have gotten a special pixie dust by-pass from the CM. Disney's system does not allow you to use two separate ticket "days" in order to park hop on the same day. Must have the park hopper option, or separate tickets.

Are you sure that you didn't have hoppers and not realize it?

If you do not have parkhopers, the tap style will not turn green. The old turn styles would say, "crossover not permitted."

Never trust anything that a phone CM tells you. They are full of bad information.

I'm glad for all the responses guys. I'm going to check again before we get there in July. Like I said we've been able to do this in the past, but what's more confusing is that I actually told the CM on The Reservation line what I was doing, he went away, checked that this was alright, and said I wouldn't have a problem. This was just a few short weeks ago. Regardless, it won't be the end of the world if I have to change something for my man's ticket, but I'm so surprised to be hearing this today, as I didn't know this was a policy. Thanks again.

LOL You are beyond right about the CMs on the phone. It can get a bit frustrating when you know they're misinformed. But if this is the case, I guess I will just have to upgrade him to a park hopper. No biggie.

I did not know this was against the rules either, as I said earlier, we've done it before. But I'm surprised we were not only successful in doing this, but that the CM that I was referring to earlier actually checked on this, and said it was absolutely fine. Even though we've done this in the past, I'm a little concerned now that either something has changed, or at least is being enforced now. I have an AP, but my boyfriend has a 5 Day Base Ticket. We're only hopping one day, and staying 4 days, so we put this into action. I'm going to have to call back and re-check again if he's going to have an issue. That would certainly stink to get there and find out he can no longer do this :/. I'll keep everyone posted after I speak to someone!

It's not just against the rules...
it is impossible to do.

The computers at the entrance touch-points will not allow it.

A lot of misinformation on this thread from people who really shouldn't be answering questions. Basically, read anything Robo says and listen to it. But you 100% CANNOT use two days of a non-hopper to go to two parks on one day. You 100% CANNOT add hopper to a single day (well, I guess technically you can add it to one day if you add it to a ticket with one day remaining but the price is the same). You can (and should) do any upgrades onsite after using the ticket once. I strongly suspect that people who have heard or done otherwise were less than clear with what they had actually asked based on the vagueness of some of the questions and responses on this thread. But the rules are very clear and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone else who will confirm the ability to do certain things suggested in this thread baring an extraordinary computer glitch.

As I've been saying, I don't know how my family has done this in the past, but we have done this. Twice. I obviously know now that my boyfriend will most likely not have success this time around. I'm just shocked about how misinformed i've been about this. I'm not usually misinformed about anything Disney! haha Again, thanks for all your responses.

You are the first person I've ever read that was able to do this. As you say, it is much cheaper than adding the Hopper option, so WDW does not allow it. We tried it (not understanding the rules) and were clearly told that it was not allowed - the base tickets can only be used at one park per day. Interesting that you have been able to do it multiple times.

Same here. The "Parkhopper vs. adding a day" question is one of the most frequently asked question on DISboards and this is the first time I"ve seen someone say it can be done.

I think what Robo is saying is; just being misinformed isn't going to get you through the gate. Someone would have to override the system to allow you in.

The only way I can answer this is... you must be mistaken.
There is no other possible answer.

(Oh, I guess you might have happened to be there on a day that all of the entrance computers were down, but you'd certainly have known that if it were the case, due to the "pandemonium at the gates.")

Whether this can, or cannot be done now (Which it obviously can't), I've 100% done this in the past. Twice. Whether one believes this or not doesn't matter. Who decides who should and shouldn't be answering questions? I think almost 3 decades of life experience in the parks not just on a forum makes one well equipped. I'm not disputing anything anyone is saying on here. As a matter of fact I've been thanking you all for all your responses. I have major respect for all of you knowledgeable veterans on this site. But there are other people who are knowledgable as well. Not being on the boards long, doesn't make a person unable to contribute. This is a place where we can all share our love of Disney. That's all I wanna do. I just don't like someone suggesting that what I'm saying isn't true. And yes, you've never been able to add a park hopper to a single day on your ticket. I hope this isn't received the wrong way. I really enjoy the boards and like chatting with you all.

To the OP, this is a no brainer. You aren't going to want to sit at one park one day, twice and another park three days all day. By the end, you will want to hit your favorites and be flexible, maybe go here for the fireworks, hit something you missed cuz it broke down last time or line was too long. It costs less than $10 a day to add it to your ticket (based on 6-7 days) and the world is your oyster the entire time.

How long ago in the past.... I've known for years that they won't allow you to use a day off your day total to hop... :confused3

There's obviously a mistake somewhere in all of this. I'm just bummed I bought my boyfriend's ticket this time around with a CMs blessing on the phone ha. I renewed my AP, and bought his. Had a whole conversation with the gentleman about it. But like I said, it's not that big of a deal to upgrade to the park hopper. You live and you learn. But I can't believe I had such bad information for so long.

It was once October 2007, and once March 2014. I know that's a while apart. Those were the only two years we had out of ordinary circumstances with ticketing in the family. Usually everyone just has an AP, or a Park Hopper without question.

I see you own DVC. Did you by chance do this with the special 4-day/4-park ticket they offered last year? There were people being told that you could enter two parks on the same day with that ticket, but I never say any actual reports of it working.

The second time we did this was last year, but we didn't purchase that special ticket. We did, however, purchase our tickets through DVC. Maybe this possibly has something to do with it. I wish I had a recording of my conversation with that CM a few weeks ago haha.

Did you buy them over the phone or online? I'd be willing to bet that you got park hoppers without realizing it.

Just funny that one person out of the thousands and thousands on DIS thinks they're able to do something that absolutely no one else can! An expert on Disney would know that no one can enter any two parks on the same day without a hopper. There must have been a hopper attached to the ticket that you were unaware of. That's really the only possible explanation.

And although I've heard all sorts of crazy things from the CMs on the phone, I find it hard to believe they'd tell you this was okay. My guess is there was some major miscommunication going on there somewhere.

They tell people that pretty often, actually.
