On my trip 2 weeks ago the park hoppers worked fine. You don't have to do the biometric finger reader it just turns to green. You don't want to trade those in. They are good for the bearer (although suppose to be used by just the person that bought them) while the new tickets can only be used by the person that first put their fingers in the machine. The tickets associate that person with that ticket. A little bit of a pain if your the official ticket holder for your group, you have to remember who has what ticket.
As a side note. I had a very good experience on my last trip with the old Park Hopper plus tickets. I had some days left from previous trips. I thought that I had one day on 2 tickets. I checked it out at the conceige desk at Boardwalk and they confirmed that each ticket had 1 day left. When I got to Epcot it did not work, the ticket showed all days used up. I was directed to guest services. I brought my tickets there and told them my story. They checked the tickets for me, asked where I was staying (Boardwalk) and my room number. They then issued me 2 park hoppers for the day. They informed me that all days were used up but that they would give these to me as a guest accomondation. They were very nice and ended up saving me a great deal of money for the day. It was my impression that this was an accomodation because we were staying in the park and or DVC members.
