So wife will be 6 months pregnant and will have 16 month old and grandparents along as well. Wife really wants to do hogwarts express but this requires park hopper passes. Given she’s pregnant and the grandparents don’t ride rides and there’s not much available for a 16 month old, I don’t know how I can justify spending all that money just for a train ride...
It’s basically a trade off between 2 Disney parks or 1 park hopper. I know they say happy wife = happy life but in this case I don’t know....

With the baby, a pregnant wife, and grandparents who don't do rides, the park to park ticket will be more beneficial for the park hopping more so than the train ride. If will give you the flexibility to go between parks at your leisure, re-visit areas people like, and hop to the other park if one didn't take as long as you expected. Being able to ride Hogwarts Express is just a bonus, IMO. We would not buy the pass just for the HE ride, but we do buy it for the flexibility.

How many park days will you have? Annual passes are often equivalently priced to a 3 day park to park ticket, and they allow some substantial discounts at the on-site resorts certain times of year.

We only have 2 park days. One will be magic kingdom and the other will be another Disney park or universal park to park.

So you'll only be at Universal for one day? Which Universal park would you do if you don't get the park to park ticket?

I would just do 2 disney parks.

You will have 4 people that won't do many universal rides. That is going to be a huge amount of money for very little return.

That’s the thing... it’s park hopper or bust. Wife only wants hogwarts express. Doesn’t care for anything else. We’ve already done both parks previously but this is the first time back with the Harry Potter expansion. However this time we have a pregnant mom and one year old and grandparents.. j

Oh, well with this information, I agree with PP to just do two Disney parks. The 16 month old won't be able to go on much at either Universal park anyhow.

Your money, but I would have a heart attack paying $170 (X 3, baby will be free) to do a 5 min train ride.

Tell her to watch it on you tube. Honestly, it is no big deal.

Buy the park to parks. The ability to take in the whole park, especially the Harry Potter stuff, is worth it. If she hasn't seen Diagon Alley, she'll be blown away. No Harry Potter fan would be content, imo, skipping the Hogwarts Express. Sorry!

I don't disagree, but I would ask the OP just how big of a Potter fan the wife is and what the likelihood is they will return. She won't even be able to do the main Potter attractions being pregnant and with the grandparents in tow, it doesn't sound like the right time to enjoy the Potter stuff.

I admit I am cheap. But I will pay when something adds to my vacation value, and while HP land and the whole Universal experience is wonderful, I would have a hard time seeing the value of $410 (that is assuming the OP will be enjoying more of what the park has to offer while the other 4 in the party are only "looking".

OP, I seriously encourage you to look the hogwarts express up on youtube full POV. I am definately impressed with Diagon Alley, but if that is your only plans, I would just do a second day at Disney.

If none of that matters to your wife (or you and gma/gpa), then go to Universal, and enjoy your day. Be sure to catch the animal actors. Everyone should enjoy that. There are lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Do the kiddie rides. Really, they are great. Check out the dino center. Some of the rides offer stationary seats everyone should be able to enjoy.

I recommend having a meal at 3 broomsticks. And don't forget the butterbeer. There will be three varieties over the fall/winter season. Reg, frozen, and hot. My fav is frozen, my son's is hot. There is also butterbeer ice cream. I have not had that yet, but will try it this year.
