Park Hop to Typhoon Lagoon

Hey Folks,

Is it something we can do if we went to say Magic Kingdom for the morning until 12pm then went to Typhoon Lagoon for the afternoon then back to Magic Kingdom at night? Or would the transportation time back and forth not be worth it. I know folks take afternoon breaks at hotels but wondering if water parks for a afternoon break instead of resort pool is an option.

As long as you have admission to the water park, you can come and go as you like. If you have a hopper pass, you don't have to go back to MK, you can even go to a different park. If you don't have the hopper, and the original park you went to was MK, you can go back there. That applies to whatever park you go to first for the day. (if you don't have a hopper pass).

I don't know if you can get a direct bus from MK to Typhoon Lagoon. You might have to go to Disney Springs, then transfer. Not exactly quick, but if you're not in a hurry, that's fine.

My concern is if the travel time is something that would work. If we left around noon could we get to the water parks by 1pm and leave around 4pm and be back for around 5pm

yeah can't go directly but could I guess go monorail to contemporary and then bus to water park. Now they claim 40 min but is this something that would be do able within 1 hour. or is that unrealistic

I wouldn't count on that. It might be possible, but you're not going to get much done at the water park in the two hours you'll actually have there (when you subtract the time it takes to get in, change your clothes, etc.) And that's assuming you can actually make it with only an hour of transport each way.

If you're going in summer, it often rains and/or has lightning midday, so your short time at the water park might be a total waste. Also, mid-day is when the water parks are busiest, so expect long lines for the attractons. Occasionally the water parks even reach capacity in midday in summer.

It might actually be faster to walk from MK to contemporary than to take the monorail.

There is no longer direct bus service from the resorts to the water parks. You now have to bus to Disney Springs, then catch another bus to Typhoon Lagoon (if it's after 1pm- before 1pm you just stay on the DS bus after the DS stop, & it will then take you to TL.) But there is never a direct bus to TL from the resorts.

If you're going to Blizzard Beach, you must bus to Animal Kingdom, then catch another bus to BB.

That's not leaving you much time at the water park. I know I would want to go back to the room and change first. If you are relying on busing, even leaving at 4, you might have a hard time getting back to your resort, change, and get back to MK by 5. That's an awful lot of traveling for 3 hours in the water park. The lines can get long. You might have time to ride a couple of slides and then the wave pool (which I highly recommend). Why the return at 5? Could you go back later?

We always drive, so I can't comment on the transportation time using WDW buses. I will say the water parks are a ton of fun. Afternoon is the busiest for sure, but you can still do fun things...lazy river, wave pool, some of the smaller slides, etc...

However, my concern wouldn't be the transportation. It would be fatigue factor. If your intent is to use the water park as a mid-day break, it may backfire. The water parks can take a lot of energy out of you, especially if you're doing slides and such. It's hot, it's sunny, there's a lot of walking up steps to get to the slides. The wave pools take energy to swim in, especially TL. You may wind up too tired to go back to the parks at night.

If you go to the water park for JUST the lazy river, perhaps it'll help. Otherwise the water parks are an energy burner, not a saver.

I don't tend to mix water park days with parks - the water parks wear us the heck out!

BUT - if you're going to do this, I would strongly suggest uber/taxi to/from CR. The bus setup as described above is just going to suck too much time, in my opinion. Uber/taxis are relatively cheap and it's "worth" the time factor from my perspective.

Have fun!

And you would use a "park" ticket day AND a "water park" ticket day. Hoppers don't allow entry into the water parks. The transportation to the water parks is ridiculous these days and will waste enormous amounts of time. Unless you drive yourself, taxi or Uber, I think there's no way on earth you get from MK to either waterpark in one hour via the buses.

I agree with OP that a dedicated WP day is ideal. We love TL and have a day there every trip. We are too tired to go anywhere that night! Rent a cabana and make it a day!

I agree.that it can be exhausting to be at a water park. Between the heat, the humisity, the stairs, the long lines in the afternoon -- it can take a lot out of you! Unless you simply use the lazy river, I wouldn't consider it a relaxing break. I love the water parks, but like to get there first thing in the morning and leave at around 2:00. By then, I need a nap!
