Park bathrooms for toddlers

We will be going in May and our son just stopped using diapers. Do the toilet seats at the parks the typical public restroom seats? He is still a little guy and needs a toddler seat at our house. Are there family restrooms that are set up for toddlers?

All the bathrooms we were in were regular. They make a fold up kid seat that might help you. Good luck!!

Yes they are regular toilets. No there are no bathrooms set up for toddlers. I wild suggest a folding potty seat if he needs it or just start having him not use a special seat at home. Most kids have no real problem with the larger seat

Yes, all the restrooms are regular toilet seats. There really aren't any "family" bathrooms in WDW. There are some companion bathrooms but I believe they just have regular toilets. You might check out the ones at the Child Care Centers but that may not always be convenient. I would either find something folds up (we had one that folded up in fourths) or just "hold/support" him while he is on the regular toilet.

Doesn't one of the baby centers have a small potty? I think I remember using one with our DD. We used this and it worked great, folds thin and fits in a gallon bag

This and a travel pack of Clorox wipes to wipe it down when finished and you are all set!

Also we use these too now that DD is a little older, they work great too. DD's pants don't have to touch the toilet because these hang down so far.

My DS literally potty trained himself at Disney. Decided on the plane there that he didn't need diapers. He was 2.5 so we were waiting until after the trip for the big push so it was awesome. We did visit pretty much every park bathroom and I don't recall any low toilets.

We did purchase a folding potty seat at Walmart there which did help. Also put a sticky note over the automatic sensor so you don't get any unexpected (and terrifying sometimes to a new pottier) flush. Works like a charm!

I bought those potty covers from amazon! They come individually wrapped too. I keep 2 in my purse all the time at home and my 3 year old son uses them when he has to go potty when we are out. He stands but with the cover his bare legs don't touch the front of the dirty toilet since the covers are so long.

Also remember that the auto-flush monsters live at WDW. If your child has not used a public toilet yet that has one of these, be aware they really scare some kids. A post-it note over it will give your little one time to finish and move out before you remove it to flush. Another word of advice is to go ahead and teach him to stand up now. Raised two boys and the youngest trained around his second birthday when we weighed about 20 lbs so tiny. We had a stool at home but in public he stood on our feet and we sorta just lifted him while holding him up. Not only prevented the feeling of falling in a huge toilet, but much cleaner than touching the seat as he holds on for dear life sitting down. Of course he has to sit for poops but those are much less frequent.
Another though is that as a newly trained little guy, there could be accidents. Some kids do back slide. I would at least pack a pack of diapers or pull ups just in case. If you see this happen, you can put one or the other over the underwear just in case to contain the mess yet letting him know he had an accident.

LOVE having boys......in the end toilet needs are much easier!

All of my kids trained between 2 1/2 and 3, and were able to use regular sized toilet seats. Just get him used to it at home - so much easier than carrying around a germy seat.

Just turn him sideways on the potty. Instant smaller seat! This has worked very well for us. I've never carried a potty seat anywhere, and he never "fell in". Try it next time you're at a store or something. I promise it works. :)

I think many of us use the travel seats not because they can't use the regular seats, but when they are that little they put their hands on the seats to balance themselves a lot and we want to keep them from hanging all over a public germy toilet. I only used ours when traveling (they just used the regular toilet at home) and just wiped it down with wipes after each use and folded into a ziploc bag. I only used it the first 6 months or so after training while they were still "wobbly". Once they got the hang of it and could balance themselves better and also matured a bit to understand about not touching things in a bathroom we stopped using them.

Ditto puffkin. We have a foldable seat so they don't get all gross and germy from holding onto the toilet seat. Just makes it easier and it was small enough to fit into my moderately sized purse

Try and avoid using the companion restrooms, as the toilets in them are higher up than typical ones.

I agree with maxiesmom about companion restroom and higher toilets esp if you have a shorter boy and even standing on your feet my not be high enough. for the young ones it seems even higher than it is. this can also be true in wheelchair stalls that are larger in size

easier still is just washing their hands! I never used the travel one, who wants to carry one around all the time?

My suggestion is start using bathrooms all over town. get them used to using all different public restrooms, so by the time they hit Disney it's old hat and are used to going no matter the set up.

Standing on the feet works wonders.

Yes, the Companion Restrooms and the handicapped stalls (big ones and smaller ones) have raised seat toilets, since they are set up for people with disabilities.

DHS and the MK (I think) have smaller children's toilets in they baby care centers. They aren't always convenient to access though. When DD was little, I bought the disposable potty seat covers for when we were in public. I also had one of those foldable seats, but I never found that particularly easy to carry with me and use.
