We are thinking of eating at a restaurant in boardwalk area around 8pm, then might walk to HS to view fireworks from outside. Is there a parking lot for the restaurants and shops there? I vaguely remember the parking at resort would be free if you are dining there as off site guests, but not sure.

In google map or disney map, I see huge parking lot next to the boardwalk property , with walk path to HS. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Non-BW guests parking at the BW for dining have to use the lot located across the street from the BW. You are usually only given a 3 hour pass to park, so you do not use the lot to go to a park and get free parking.

There's parking for the Boardwalk restaurants and shops but not for theme parks. I have stayed at Boardwalk and had to go round and round in the parking lot because inconsiderate people think they can park there for free and go to Epcot or DHS.

If you know you're going to DHS after dinner why not park in the DHS lot and take the boat in front of DHS over to the Boardwalk for dinner then boat back to the park after dinner.

Disney does not want guests parking at resorts in order to get to a park...even if they eat at that resort. The only guests entitled to park at a resort and then go to a park for the day are those guests paying to stay at that resort.
Now, if you valet park you are free to go where you wish to...even to a park for the day.
If you want to go to DHS after eating at BW, then why not just park at DHS and then boat or walk to BW for dinner and return to DHS after dinner? The only reason not to do this would be if you were an off-site guest trying to avoid paying to park at DHS. Otherwise, it makes perfect sense to park at DHS.

Because OP would have to pay for parking that way. ;)

Just park at DHS. If you're planning to visit both DHS and BW that day anyway, then there is no extra walking or boating parking at DHS versus BW. You'd just be doing one of the boating/walking legs before BW, rather than after DHS.

As mentioned above, the only reason not to do this would be trying to get free parking as an offsite guest. Please consider BWI guests who have paid for the use of their parking lot.

We will not go to the park, just view the fireworks from outside, so total time parking there including the meal will be 2 hours or so.
