Parents, would you do this?

I think the Ebay bit was somewhere in between the truth. They probably were admonishing their child, and they probably were hoaxing it up a bit for the publicity of it all.

Um - since when do you need a corkscrew to open a bottle of champagne - they are pressure corks that are removed by hand...

I think the story is embellished.

You are right about the corkscrew!

We always used pencils and pushed the corks down into the wine that we bought. (Not that Boone's Farm has a cork in it)

Of course I came from a home that never had alcohol in it and I sure had no problem going out to find out what it was all about. I always felt guilty when I did things that I knew were wrong and so I really thought twice about it. Sometimes I did them and sometimes I didn't. I lived and learned! I feel that I have turned out just fine!

I am surprised by these posts by tastelikecandy. I thought one of her posts on a previous thread was offensive when she said something like "why do you think my username is tastelike candy" Although I probably don't have the exact quote, in context it was very obviously a sexual reference. That is why her stance on sex in this thread surprises me.

As far as the EBAY auction goes....

I have never opened a $120 bottle of Dom but I could see a 13yo using a corkscrew to open it.

I tend to connect the punishment to fit the "crime". So no that would NOT be my response to the child's misbehavior. Mine would be much more creative.

Didn't you say you did not know if god was a man or a woman. yeah what values there.

I'll match your   and raise you a  . I have no idea what that statement is supposed to mean.

Who would have thought I might actually get my first locked thread from a simple Ebay post? Keep going folks.

I think he's lucky he only lost his PS2. I'd hate to think (in today's society) what could happen to this boy's parents considering the alcohol that was acquired and consumed in their home. :(

I'd have called the police and had them come take him away
to jeuvie, then hired a lawyer and made sure he got some
rehab and some public assistance work assignments. No
13 year old is gonna run me like that when alcohol is involved.
I would stop that in it's tracks as well as get rid of every single
item of privilege that boy had. All gone but a bed, some clothes
and meals. No transportation, no friends over, no bikes, skateboards, game machines - nothing. I'm not kidding, booze
is no joke.

I really don't think that you have the right to think you take parenting more seriously then others. Everyone's parenting style is different. What may work with your kids, may not work for others. I also don't see the justification that wine is okay, but liquor isn't okay. So, I guess when I took the occasional drink in front of my DD when she was a child makes me a hypocrite. I did some of the exact behaviors that your state is bad parenting and my DD turned out to be level headed young lady.

Yeah, You guys compare all new posters to some moron and we are the ones with the problem. Actually just because some people take parenting more seriously than you does not make them insane, it makes them smart. But in the end I guess we will see who is right. Teach your kids whatever you want I could care less, you are not in my world.

Watch out for those bottles of wine. Your children might turn out to be a bunch of winos.

I think someone is trying to write another "creative" Ebay ad to make money and perhaps get their 10 minutes of fame like a few others have recently.

I agree. I don't buy it.

At first I thought no -- until I continued reading. A 13 year old drinking and trashing the house! Man they got BIG problems!
