Parents: would this be ok?

I tried this at Fantasmic on our last trip.... I had 50 glow necklaces and my kids were handing them out- and then we were SWARMED by kids (and some teens:rolleyes1 ) trying to get them- I was actually worried about my own kids at that point! After they were all gone... there were a few kids left with out any and they looked so sad- I felt terrible and decided not to do it ever again.:guilty: Maybe it was because we were there during Grad nights and the Cheerleading tounaments- but still- it didn't go over well at all for us.:headache:

We did the same thing last year. DD4 gave them to other kids sitting around us (she asked the parents first, of course). Our only negative came from one dad, as our DD was about to ask him if she could give a necklace to his DD, he said, to me "You sure are teaching her to exploit commercialism early. How much has she made so far?" I politely said "No, she's just trying to spread some magic, no charge." He looked a little sheepish and we didn't hear so much as a peep from him after that.

We do this too--and it seems to go over very well when the children are the ones handing them out. My daughter loves to share stuff like glo sticks and stickers. We just share with the people right next to us--try to be subtle so as not to get mobbed.

Funny though, the first time my husband decided to jump in and help spread the magic he just had to pick the people who didn't speak English :rotfl2: Finally I had to step in and I just kept saying "free" "no money" "free" and then they got it, smiled and took them for their kids.

Before you buy from Oriental Trading, I'd check the dollar store. We get ours there...$20 for $1! I'd watch giving them to children under 3 though...we've had a few break.

Just a note - we've found that the thinner glo bracelets and necklaces can leak, but we haven't had any problems with those short, thicker glo sticks. Maybe those don't puncture or leak as easily because they aren't so thin.

we did this last year. We met the most lovely family right there on the circle at Main Street. We had glo bracelets, sticks, necklaces- all from the $ store-everyone was fine w/ it & the kiddo (as they all had the same things) were entralled w/ each other & therefore entertained during the wait. :goodvibes

I also got some from Dollar Tree and pulled them out while waiting for Fantasmic. Huge Hit. Kids could care less where they come from as long as they have something fun. They also kept another families kids entertained while waiting for the show to start. popcorn::

My older daughter offered hers on our last trip. She did ask the parents first and everyone she asked accepted. Made her feel very good to spread the magic. :wizard:

I would let your kids

I found these at Michaels in their dollar bins. We always share with other kids around us. I can't stand to see other kids longing for one and my kids have them. I also feel like it teaches my DD4 what it is like to share with others, not just her sister. I always have her ask first. I've never had anyone turn us down.

Its a glo stick? How bad could it be? I would let my kids accept them - I do the same thing with any extras I have of glo sticks at events we go to. It is a little magic spread around! It is not like it is candy.

Just a reminder that since they are filled with liquid you may not take them in your carry-on luggage unless they are in your baggie. I personally don't have room in my baggie for glo-sticks, but we always have checked bags so they go in there! :)

I brought a bunch one time. Handed them out to kids each night, mostly to kids as I was sitting waiting with my youngest DS since he was too small to go on some rides at the time. We handed them to other kids who were also too small to go on rides. We asked the parents and the child got to choose wether they got one or if they wanted enough for all of their siblings. Most picked all. It was nice anad then they got to hand them to their siblings when they got off the ride and had smiles where there were previously tears or boredom.
