Due to the cost of the glo items at the night time shows I was planning on buying glo sticks from Oriental Trading. My plan was to buy two packages of 12 for a total of 24 and have my 2 sons (ages 6 and 8) give the other 22 to any kids we may see. My husband tells me that it is a bad idea because many parents may not let their children accept them as a it came from a stranger. Thoughts on this?

I'd let my kids take them, but that's just me. I trust more people in WDW than anywhere else. I bought a bunch from Dollar Tree and we are taking those. It's so much cheaper. All my kids want is something that glows. If I whip those bad boys out when it gets dark, hopefully they won't "have to have" all the Disney ones. :lmao:

we did this last year. We met the most lovely family right there on the circle at Main Street. We had glo bracelets, sticks, necklaces- all from the $ store-everyone was fine w/ it & the kiddo (as they all had the same things) were entralled w/ each other & therefore entertained during the wait. :goodvibes

I had extras one year so I gave some to a few kids that were sitting by us for spectromagic. I asked the parents first. However, I felt terrible because one must have been defective and it leaked all over this poor little girl. I felt horrible! So, I haven't given them out since. I know it was probably a one time incident and the mom was very nice about it, but in the sue-happy world we live in, you just never know what some people would do.

I would let my kids accept them, but would appreciate it if I were asked first ("Is it okay if I give your kids ______.") It is very nice and generous of you to share. :)

We give out all kinds of stuff... mickey bubbles, glow stuff, you name it.

If someone doesn't want it...that's okay. I always ask the parent first before offering it to their child though.

:wizard:

I prefer LED flashing light pendants/toys to one use glow jewelry as they can be turned on/off and have replaceable batteries...so you can reuse them. Just a thought :)

I wouldn't decline, if they were offered to my children. I do think you should check with the parents first, though.

I think its a lovely idea! Just make sure you ask the parents before handing them out, just out of respect.

We did this while waiting for Spectro - it was a blast!!! DS has a girlfriend in upstate NY now

I would let my kids accept them. I agree ask the parents first (discretely so the kids don't know about them in case the parents decline.) Great idea, way to spread the magic!!!:wizard:

We took a bunch of bendable glow sticks down with us on our last trip. They were great at entertaining my DD while we were waiting for the parade to start. Whenever we saw the longing in another child's face who didn't have a light up toy, we'd ask their parent if it was ok. Every time the parent said yes, and the child was thrilled. We even had people ask us where we bought them. As long as it's ok with the parents, we figured it was all good.

I'd let my kids take them...especially if the person offering them obviously had a family in tow! As stereotypical as it sounds, I'd be leary of a single guy offering glowsticks, but not a family.

To relieve the concerns, tho, you could have your kids offer the sticks. That should relieve any concerns anyone might have.

I think it's a cool idea! Personally, I share sunscreen. On every trip we've overheard a parent lamenting not having some with them...so I share.

We did that last year, and have our jumbo pkg ready again this year....our kids gave out the extras, and were declined a couple times, but most times other kids and parents were delighted. It worked GREAT keeping our own kids from asking to buy glow things, 1 tube of 100 sticks = $5.00 GREAT DEAL! + more money to spend on other souvineers!

I was just going to say that...I bought some for the girls on the cruise..and I didn't realise that it had leaked all over her...who knows what's in that thing...and her clothes glowed in the dark...

I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'd most definetly ask the parents first. There may be a reason why a parent wouldn't want their child to have them--maybe they got in trouble and lost the privelege or another sibling is going to meet up and they don't want the problems it would cause. Maybe the parents are just weirdos. It would just be respectful.

My DD's love to do this.... every year we hit up the dollar store or the Target dollar spot and end up with about 50+ bracelets for under $10. When we're sitting and waiting for Spectromagic to start, my DD's love to hand the freshly activated bracelets to children walking by.... last year some children next to us begged to get in on the action too so we gave them a handful to hand out :) Nothing like spreading the magic :goodvibes

Let the kids offer them. Not only will they get a kick out of sharing, a gift from a stranger is much less threatening to a parent if said stranger is 6. My son would not accept a present from you if you walked up to him (not allowed, stranger danger and all that) but he'd think it was awesome if another kid gave him one.
