When did this become okay? I saw soooo many parents drinking alcohol while walking the residential area with their kids. I saw parents with wine glasses and bottles of beer. I almost said something about it on Facebook today, but then some of my Facebook "friends" started posting pics of themselves doing this exact thing. Is this normal? I am far from a prude, but I just think it is WRONG to take your kids Trick or Treating while drinking... what kind of example is that setting? They weren't even trying to hide it. Ugh... tell me if I am just turning into an old lady with my thinking! I am only in my 30's!

I don't think it's wrong to drink in front of children?

I think it's wrong to drink irresponsibly but a couple of beers whilst doing the rounds isn't a big deal. :confused3

I would think this would also be illegal as well in some places. Legal on your own property yes, on a public sidewalk not so sure.

I see nothing wrong with drinking socially in front of your kids. My issue was doing something illegal kids in tow. It is, in fact, illegal to wander around the neighborhood with open alcohol.

I think it is bizarre to wander the streets with beer/wine whilst the kids ToT. It violates most open containter laws, but DH and I joke about the few parents who have the kids wander and ToT while they pull the wagon with the cooler. I don't have to get it I guess and if they are not hurting anyone I really dont' care either way. Better to pull the cooler wagon around than drink and drive.

I didn't say you shouldn't drink in front of the kids... but it is illegal to drink on the public streets here... and not all parents believe in alcohol, so maybe they don't want their kids seeing it??

I don't think most children would bat an eyelid if they saw an adult drinking an alcoholic drink - besides, they're going to see it at some point, so just explain that it's a drink for adults. The legalities thing sure, but I doubt the police are too fussed as long as no trouble comes of it.

I think that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read here :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

As far as it being illegal, it may be and then yes you shouldn't be doing it front of your children.

I guess I don't see an issue except that it might violate an open container law.

Now if they were falling down drunk....

My kids visit houses where the folks are having a good time hanging out passing out candy to kids while enjoying a glass of wine.

Okay??? I am positive that my very nice Mormon neighbors were not thrilled with all the drinking on the streets last night. Their kids cringe when they see me drinking a Starbucks.

Perhaps they should call the police if it is illegal.

If it isn't, they would just have to deal with it.

I'm sure your mormon neighbors don't like the risque or gory costumes either.

But that is their issue because of their beliefs. If drinking alcoholic in public is illegal and it upset you that much, you should have notified the authorities but personally I'm going with if it's not hurting anyone, leave them to it. :confused3

We don't drink, but I do think it violates open container laws around here -- unless you have a permit for a block party or something. Truthfully, I never looked into it. However, when did it become okay to then throw the cans and bottles in my yard? I spent about 5 minutes today cleaning my yard of debris. I know that isn't a lot of time. I always find a few candy wrappers, but it has gotten worse each year.

I'll tell my husband that you are officially aghast! :lmao:

I guess it might be illegal somewhere - God knows somebody tries to make nearly everything illegal at some point.

As for here, there is absolutely nothing that forbids anybody from having a beer on the sidewalk in their neighborhood as long as they are above legal age and aren't violating public intoxication ordinances. As long as they aren't driving a car, I really don't see the big whoopin' deal about it either.

that's been the norm for several places we have lived in. nobody is getting smashed, just having a beer or a glass of wine. in fact, I know several people who hand out over 21 treats to the adults along with the candy to the kids that come around (friends, of course)

Okie dokie then... I guess I am a prude. :confused3

Not at all.

I'm a stickler for following the law if there is one.

But given all the aspects of Halloween, I'm sure your Mormon neighbors might have been offended by much of it.

Heck, I have friends that serve alcohol at birthday parties. Not something I would do--but I have indulged while there. (these are kiddy parties and the alcohol is served to the grownups.)

I'm sure they were toting drinks last night. But I wasn't out and about. But it certainly fits in line with what they would do.

I hear there are parents that drink with while taking their kids to see Mickey Mouse.

I think I am missing something what is wrong with starbucks?

and I find that disrespectful why can't they just hold on to it

We must be the polar oppostire of prudish because all the parents have adult beverages with them when the TOT with the kids. Heck we even had them at the church Trunk or Treat last weekend as well, I even had a PUMPKIN BEER!:lmao:

So, by that reasoning, I am assuming you also no longer drink Starbucks because your neighbors don't approve?
