DS is 16 months old. He has always been tall for his age. This morning he was 35 inches. Well here is my question. How old were your boys when they reached heights requirements for some of the rides. It has been almost 3 yrs since my last disney trip and I need a fix. Thanks
Melissa

My son (5 1/2yrs) is also very tall for his age....usually between 75-90%. He was able to ride quite a few rides before he was 3 (38''). He was able to ride the 40'' rides at almost 4 yrs old and was able to ride Space Mountain (42") right after he turned 5. He's also very adventerous and a little daredevil. Keep in mind that just because your DS can ride a ride, he still may not want to ride it.

Thanks for the info. Jaden nickname at school is daredevil. I get at least one incident report a week. We were planning to go sometime before his 3rd bday. Jaden has always been in the 90%. Thanks again. Anyone else?

My boys are both tall for their age, especially my oldest who is always around 90th percentile. We went the summer my oldest was 3.5 and he was over 40" (he hit 40" at around his 3rd birthday) so was able to ride most things. He is not a daredevil in normal life but loved Splash, Thunder Mountain, etc.

My youngest is now 3.5 and 40 inches. He is more of a daredevil in regular life but is the type to get scared by big rides so I kind of doubt he will be wanting to ride the big 40" rides this trip. We will let him try if he wants to (it would be fun for us to all be able to ride together!) but I imagine we will still be doing babyswap, which is fine...as the above poster said, just because a child is tall enough doesn't mean they are necessarily ready for every ride.

If you really need your Disney fix and can afford it, I say go ahead and take your DS now. Go with another adult so you can babyswap. We went when our DS was 17 months and it was one of the most wonderful vacations ever.

My son was 4 years old the 1st time he went on a rollercoaster. It was the Comet at Hershey Park. When we moved here he was in kindergarten and was tall enough to ride Rock n Roller, and loved it.

DS2 (will be 3 in exactly one month) rode the Goofey rollercoaster last week. Height measurement for the ride said 35 inches...he had that cleared by almost a full five inches (he is just shy of 40)...he absolutely loved it. We also did the usual kiddie rides with him...it was so much fun!!! he even made me stand in line a second time for Dumbo

DS is 100th percentile for height. 41" now, and he'll be three in late September. Even though he meets the height requirements for many rides, we'll probably take him on Splash Mountain and the Barnstormer only. I think that Thunder Mountain would be too much for him. Although if he's like HappyMommy2's DS, maybe it wouldn't be too much...

My oldest DS is always in the 100+%. I think when we took him at 3 we was about 43". When we took him at 4 he was much more around 45-46". He'll ride pretty much anything, except Haunted Mansion. Dinosaur is one of his favorite rides. He's been taking rollercoasters at Six Flags since he was 2. Now, DS#2 is much more timid, but being in the lowly 5% rides like that will take awhile to even become an option.

My older son first rode Splash Mtn, Big Thunder Mtn, and Goofy's Barnstormer when he had just turned 3. He loved them, and I didn't feel that he was too young to handle them. I'm not quite as sure about Space Mtn (he's now 4 and meets the height requirement), since he can't sit next to me or my husband, and it's completely dark. We may wait until he's 5 or 6 for that one, and we're definitely waiting until he's older for Mission Space.

My younger son was 36" when we went to WDW last time (he was about 22 months), but I didn't want him to ride Goofy's Barnstormer. I think that it is a bit too jarring for such a young child. We're going again next month (he'll be 2 1/2), and he's probably about 38" or 39", and I'm undecided about letting him ride it. The seats are hard, and my older son still bumps the back of his head on it.

That being said, if you need a fix, your son can ride most of the other rides. We needed a fix after our first child and we went when he was 18 months. He certainly doesn't remember it, but he did enjoy it at the time.

We took my ds a few weeks before his 3rd bithday. He was 40 inches tall. His favorite rides were Splash Mountain and Test Track. He has always been in the 97% for his height and weight. We are going again in Oct. for his 5th birthday. He is 46 inches and is excited to be able to ride Space Mt. (45 inch height req.)

DS9 is now 56 inches tall. At 3 he was tall enough to go on ToT! He loved it soooo much, he made DH take him again. I think DS was 4 when he was tall enough for Splash Mountain.

When DS turned 7 he could go on Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain and RRC.

Well, I don't have a DS but I have a tall DD. At 3 she was not real tall, 38.5" but by 4 (actually only 3y9mo) she was 45" and could ride most rides. She didn't really like TOT but loved to brag that she rode it. It sounds like there is a good chance your DS will be taller than 40" which will get him on many rides.

I don't have a boy but my girl is already 36 inches at 2(just turned two on July 26th) and I suspect she will reach the bigger rides height limit earlier too.

Of course we are moving to area south of Disney World so she will have lots of experiences there and may want to go on those rides by then. She's a little daredevil in anything. :earseek:

Not to mention she has older girl cousins there that she will probably at some point see going on them and want to go too.

My oldest DS is very tall. He is 52 inches now at 6 years old. He rode Thunder, Splash, Dinosaur, Test Track, TOT at 3. He rode Mission Space and Space Mountain at 4 and Rock N Roller Coaster at 5. He was actually able to ride Space Mountain in Disneyland at 3 beacuse of the different height requirements. (Those may have changed with the remodel.) He is very daring and loves roller coasters.

Younger DS 3 is also tall and has ridden Thunder, Splash, TOT, Soarin and Test Track. He is not as daring as his brother so I don't see him doing Mission Space or Space Mountain anytime soon. I have also not brought him on dinosaur even though he asks because I really think he woul be scared.

I think it is different for each child. DS will be 4 on our next trip and we will see what he wants to try.

Thanks for all the input. Im thinking about next spring Jaden will be 2 and will be able to ride a lot of the rides.
