are you and your kids feeling totally overwhelmed at this point?????? DD applied to 4 schools to their music education program, which also required auditioning (another added stressor); got accepted to 3 and her first and only denial yesterday :( . She is having a heck of a time deciding where to go and I'm trying to let her make the decision that is right for *her* without inflicting my own "stuff" into the mix. Plus, there's deadlines fast approaching, scholarship applications to file, her 18th birthday is next week and I'm planning a surprise party for her which is also stressing me out. Not to mention her upcoming graduation party that is totally pushing me over the edge. STOP THIS INSANITY, I want to get off!!!!!! :crowded: :furious:
(anyone else feeling just a teeny, tiny bit overwhelmed like me????)

I know just how you feel!! We have one more college visit to make before my son feels he'll be able to make his decision. It's hitting me hard that my "baby" will be graduating HS and my own days of involvement in the school district will be ending. We keep saying we'll have to "adopt" a kid in the marching band next year! Can't wait for everything to fall into place and all the "lasts" and "firsts" have passed-maybe by next December!! :rolleyes2

Yeah we have a lot going on. Thankfully she's already made her decision about where she's going - her 1st choice accepted her and we've already registered for a dorm assignment.

We have her 18th b'day coming up in April, Graduation in May, Orientation in June, Mother/daughter European cruise in July, school starts in August.

It's overwhelming but at the same time, I don't want it to end :(

It is fun, I think.

And word to the wise...a thin envelope doesn't always indicate a rejection. There is at least one college that sends a thin envelope with one piece of paper. Line one reads: "Yes!"

The next paragraph says that you've been accepted and the pack will be on the way soon.

So, don't despair over thin envelopes!

Oh man, my niece is going crazy and my sis is even crazier... :crazy2:

Niece applied to a # of colleges WHICH (IMO) were REACHES for her, not her "perfect match" school. I, generally have trouble talking to sis about niece as she gets her "pants all in a knot" if any family members "offers" some advice... :sad2:

That being said...niece has had 1=yes, 1=no, 3=waitlisted! Her NO was her TOP choice and her YES was her bottom, complete bottom of the barrel choice...ugh...so yes, allot of THIN envelopes...ugh... :rolleyes2

She still has 3 more to hear from....ugh.... :worried:

I'd like to crawl under the covers for the next eight weeks - this is the WORST!!!

DD has had two yes answers and two waitlists. One of the yes schools was her first choice, the other her last choice. The two waitlists were either reaches or a good match she didn't want to attend. But she (and to some extent me, since one of them is my alma mater) is nursing a little bit of a bruised ego about being waitlisted. I know she wanted four yes envelopes!!!
Oh, well, I love the school I think she will end up attending, and I know she will have a great experience. But finishing a Girl Scout Gold award project, a month long senior work project, graduation, and getting the college business decided and underway is so stressful!!!!!

But I'll really miss all of this next September...

We applied to 4 and were accepted to 4; in the end he chose his reach school. The decision was made this week and the deposits have been sent.

We now only have about 20 days of high school left; graduation, our graduation trip to Mickey and then the shopping starts for dorm stuff. I feel like the days are just flying by.

I am glad the actual decision is behind us.

My DD only applied to the one she wanted to go to. She applied the 2nd week of November and got her acceptance letter the day before Christmas. The party location is decided so, no I haven't felt any stress over it. You guys are making me nervous now, like I'm totally missing something really big :confused3

Go Illini!

Nervous?? No need to be nervous, Mom...in a perfect world I think EVERY parent/student would LOVE to have been in both you and your DD's shoes... :thumbsup2

Come on now..to apply in Nov be accepted in Dec and you are ALL SET before the NEW YEAR is even here, I actually think is a DREAM come true!!! :cloud9:

My sis is basically NOT even talking to all of us in the family as she is THINKING it is ALL her fault niece is not getting the NODS she wanted. :furious:

The school my son applied to won't let you apply to other places...i.e. If you get accepted, you have to go there.

He applied, got accepted, and that was that!

Ooooh, I'm so jealous of all those that have made decisions, but happy for you too. Just wish we were in your shoes.

There are also so many other variables to consider. 1)The school she's leaning towards only has enough campus housing for 25% of its students, which means she's on the waitlist. I'm really not crazy about having a freshman live in off-campus housing her first year. So that's up in the air and she can't really commit to them without knowing she has housing. 2) The school I would like her to go to is too "close" to where we live and she wasn't crazy about the campus, etc. 3) The other choice is out-of-state (which means out of state fees) and their music program is not as established as the other two. UGH!!

Hopefully in a few weeks, I will find this all to be "fun", too. Right now, it's totally stressful.

You son must have applied EARLY DECISION. Schools that have EARLY DECISION and a candidate applies and is accepted HAS to go there.

AWESOME!! Good Luck to you son...Class of 2010!!! :thumbsup2

No, that's how they do it. Which was a big worry to me. What if he doesn't get it? It might be too late for other schools.

But DH said, "Go for it." He did, and WHEW!, it worked.

Do you sign an agreement? I bet if you can't come up with the money, you get dropped like a hot potato.

Glad though that your son got the school he wanted.

DD has accepted at FSU. We got an email telling her what her scholorships are, but I still have documents they want turned in. I thought I'd turned everything in. It goes on and on!

No stress here. My son's already applied and been accepted. Room deposits been made. Just waiting on the orientation information. His relationship with his girlfriend is more stressful. Just trying to get through prom next month.

Congradulations to your dd.

I think you asked this question about back-ups for FAFSA.

I had to turn in copies of our Tax returns and our sons. Had to do the same for my dd who is attending the Same school. I think Northern Michigan University makes it a standard practice for anyone receiving aid.

My son attends UW-Milwaukee-He will be 24 in June and he almost got a full ride. He didn't have to claim our income this year- He waited 2 1/2 years before he went to college. So sometimes it pays to wait and go out into the working world-that was his decision.

You mean this is how this particular college has their Admissions set-up...like IF you apply...and you get accepted...you go....??? They do not have other choices like "rolling" or "early action" or "regular action".....interesting!!!

There is NO other way? I was assuming E.D. as the fact that they ACTED on his app so early (Nov) with a decision in (Dec) made me "assume" he went the E.D. route....ugh....ya, I guess that can be scary BUT I am also "assuming" that you had sent out other app's in case he did not get that all so important NOD??

DD applied to three and has gotten accepted to two of them so far (one offered a small Scholarship).
The third one is her #1 choice (U of M) and they have her on their "maybe" list..... we should find out in a week or two. :)

My mom says that while she doesn't want to repeat last years stress (although I kept it very low stress for her, did pretty much everything on my own, and had my deposit mailed by the first of March), she looks back on it and cries.

Good luck to all the kids still awaiting decisions, and congrats to those who have made their decisions, and for all on the upcoming graduations Keep the cameras and tissues handy in the next couple months. It's a total emotional roller coaster, but if their schools get into it, the end of senior year can be an absolute blast!
