Parents of College Class of 2018 (A.K.A., "Is this the line to the poor house?")

I'm so jealous of everyone getting their kids home already! Mine just had his first final today. He will be home late Friday, but at least gets a full month before he has to head back in January.

My dd and her roommate don't have a countdown that I know of, but I know she and her friends miss each other alot and chat via group Facebook message while they are at home.
She has one final today and one Wed, then she will come home in the afternoon. I can't wait!!!! But when she goes home in January it's going to be like August all over again. She will go home on a Sunday and Tuesday is her birthday, it will be her first birthday not at home. Makes me sad already.
She had one of her short films from her first semester chosen to be shown among 11 others in a film showcase on Friday, so that was pretty darn awesome for her first semester!!

That's wonderful that her film was chosen! I'm sure she was thrilled. It must be very good.

Gina, the Aggie Moms are such a great group. I'll bet the kids appreciated everything.

My son only had one teacher who he thought was difficult. She was from another country and had a unique way of teaching and testing.

I can't wait to have mine home! He'll be home Wednesday. He has his last final, chemistry, this morning. He said he will be soooooo glad to have chem done and behind him, lol. He's much more of a physics guy, and really didn't like his chem professor anyway. He has liked his other engineering classes, but really struggled with this one.

It was neat, though -- The other day, one of the student groups had the local animal shelter bring over puppies and kittens for the frazzled students to snuggle and de-stress with before finals. I thought that was very cool. And then last night the Aggie Moms put on "midnight munchies", where they set up tables and tables of yummy stuff for the students to take and eat while they were doing 11th-hour studying. I couldn't be there for that since I had to be at work early this morning, but from the pics it looked like everyone enjoyed it!

His plan is to work as many hours as possible during the break so he can go back with a little more fun money than he had this semester. He also needs to have a couple of cavities filled, so we'll schedule that too. But all of that can wait until after I have hugged him silly.

Hope everyone has a great break with their kids!!

What a fun idea to have some puppies and kittens help the kids de-stress. DD said she now understands the recurring dream DH and I told her she'd start having about showing up for a final without studying! I still have a dream like that once in a while, so college must have really traumatized me!

A good professor can make all the difference in those tough weeder classes. DD was lucky to have had a great Chemestry professor this fall. She won't be so lucky next semester though, and will probably have to learn a lot of the content on her own and via the school tutoring program. At least her books carry over to next semester in Chemestry and Calculus, so the book expense won't be as bad. I still have to buy the darn online access code for Chem though.

Enjoy your hugs!!!

Congrats to her. She must be very excited! :cool1:

What an awesome accomplishment!

Thanks everyone, she was pretty happy, as was I. I watched it again last night, on Youtube, I think it's pretty darn cute! I would share, but I am not sure I want to put it out so publicly LOL. If anyone really wanted to see I could send the link in a PM, it's just under 2 minutes long.

One of the schools we toured told us they brought in puppies and kittens for finals also. I thought that was so cool!

My dd texted me yesterday that the girl in the room next to hears was screaming how she "blanked" up, she thought her final was yesterday, but it was last Friday!!!! I felt sick just thinking about that. I still have nightmares about things like that. Poor girl, that is just awful!!!

That is awesome about your DD's film! She had to Be so thrilled! And they had the therapy dogs and cats at DD's college too. She said they had guinea pigs and a teacup pig too! She loves the little piggy lol

The boys in the mod next to my DD had the stomach flu (which was sweeping campus that week) and she felt so bad for them having to drag across campus for their finals. She gave them all her stomach ailment meds she had. And her can of Lysol lol The girls took all their powerades over too. Those poor kids :(

I have to laugh at my DD, she said, Mom, you don't realize how much you miss good toilet paper until you come home lol

Hope everyone has a great week and all the kids do well on their finals! DD got a C+ on the dreaded chem test and A's on all her others :)

Definitely the stuff of nightmares. :scared1:

Counting down the days until DS is done on Friday. The tough one (Differential Equations) was Monday and is thankfully over and he thinks he did well. He said the last exam in that class before finals had a campus average of 51.

My son got home last thursday.

I talked with him to let him know that he needs to help out while he's home. I know he was planning on sitting in his room playing video games alot.

He's doing what I've asked him so far even though he did the eye roll on one thing that he didn't realize I saw. LOL

I asked him how his grades were and he said he passed all of his classes with B's and C's so that's good.

Miss Lola Kitty is so happy he's home again - she has been following him everywhere unless he closes her out of the room.

I'm not sure when he goes back - I guess I should ask but I just want to enjoy having him home for a bit before thinking about him leaving again.....

I would love to see it!

I would like to see it. I will message you. :good vibes

That's terrible about the girl not realizing that day of her final exam. I wonder if the school can do anything to help her.

I would love to see it, too! Can you PM a link to me? That is so exciting that her work is already getting recognized! :woohoo:

That poor girl who missed her final! That is truly a nightmare. Poor thing! Sounds like something I'd do. I've been known for showing up at hair appointments and parties on the wrong days? :rolleyes1

I'm sure by now everyone's kids are home, safe and sound.
Happy holidays everyone. pixiedust:

Is there a better Christmas gift than having them safely home, laughing away in the next room? :)

Merry Christmas everyone! :santa:

No, there is no better gift. It's been great having him home for the holidays. We've spent a lot of family time together.

Happy holidays! I hope everyone has a great time with their kids over the break.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I'm afraid just how hard this will be for her to go back. She's already jokingly said she's perfectly happy at home and doesn't want to go back. Uhhhh, nope! Get packing! I love you but you are going back! :lmao:

I asked my son if he was eager to go back to school and he said no because he hates the Corps of Cadets. :( It's disappointing because I had high hopes that he would love being at college. He likes everything but the Corps though. Maybe by the time he needs to go back he will be ready.

We had a great Christmas morning. He slept in, so I was able to make coffee, make cinnamon rolls, and get the turkey in the oven all before he got up.

We had a great Christmas, too! I'm just starting to get over my food coma! DD is leaving on Monday for 10 days. By the time she gets back, she'll have only three days before school starts back up again. All of her spring books are en route in the mail. I spent under $90 this time which is a steal compared to last semester! Her calculus and chemistry classes will continue with the same books. DD still has to buy an online access code for only one class. The biggest bargain was a book I found online for .40 cents. It's being shipped via super duper slow snail mail, so hopefully it will get here in time.

Merry Christmas and best wished for a wonderful new year!

Oh, that's a bummer! Poor guy! Hopefully the spring semester won't be as bad as the fall semester! Is your DS going to stay at the same school next fall minus the Corps, or will he be transferring?

Sending him good thoughts and some pixie dust! pixiedust:
