So...how many Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars can one little boy possibly have and play with???

My 5YO has a suitcase with 24 slots in it, he doubles the cars up, and still has leftovers!!!

Currently, they are lined up by color and style across the family room floor. :teeth:

Oh many I loved Hot Wheels as a kid!!! I don't even know how many I had but the answer, Debbie is that Bubble Boy will probably never have enough of them :p

Oh, enjoy it. Children grow up too fast. Sounds like another trip to a toy store to buy another case for more cars....and buy a few more cars, too :) My son had bunches, but not tons. I have a cousin, though, who is 26 or so and he still has ALL of his still displayed. I think he had a million....well, it looked like it.

My last count was seven of those boxes..... and he is ten now...

After 3 boys, we had about half a bushel of hot wheels, matchbox and assorted other cars.

I can't relate to hot wheels anymore, but now DS has more computer parts in his room, he could probably build many computers! Also don't even ask about DD's(18YO) collection of shoes!:p

Well, the answer to my original question, is SIXTY. Yep, he just counted them all (might as well get some educational value :teeth: )

So a 5YO boy can play with 60 matchbox/hotwheels.

LOL @ Buz--Half a bushel, yipes!!!

Ann Morin--7 Boxes????? :earseek:

My 7 yr old easily has over 100. He had a ton then his old cousin brought him a plasitc grocery bag that was half filled with his old ones. They are everywhere & believe it or not, there are very few duplicates. He still sees cars he doesn't have when we go to the store. I con't really mind since they are less than $1 at Target.

deb those will be quite collectible when he is older.

Some hot wheels right now can go for as much as $75-$100 each.

My 44 year old DH just started buying them! Supposedly, they are for our grandson (my kids are 20 & 22, with no wedding plans in the immediate future!). He bought a case to put them all in and it must be full because he has a few sitting on top. He also has a stash of Tonka trucks in the attic, that he bought a few years ago.

Not only does DS have TONS of them that he played with when he was young, now that he is too grown up(10) he likes to collect the sets. So now we have to look at all the stores for a certain car to finish whatever set he is working on at the moment. He just found all 4 of the Bowling cars.:) Then we have a box to save them in, still in the boxes. It was easier when he just got to pick one in the grocery line to play with because he was good at the store! My Mom says I should be happy, my Dad has a collection of real cars. Now those are hard to store!!!:)

debster, that brings back fond memories for me. My oldest DS loved matchbox cars when he was little (he's almost 19 now) and I can still picture him lining them up and grouping them by different categories....they grow up so fast!

My son has to have over 100. He is almost 5, but the only grandson on my side  . My cousin in California sent him 25 for Christmas! I kept about 15 of them in the package and hid them in my closet with his complete set of 1998 (the year he was born) baseball cards, to save for later. He won't miss them!
The good thing is, if he is in Kroger and want one they are only 89 cents--much cheaper than some other things (knock wood, he doesn't care about Pokemon or Digimon or anything like that yet).

When I was little I love matchbox cars - I probably had at least 150. I used to get one almost every time we went shopping if I was good, and I guess I must have been good to get that many cars.

We have lots here too....and both kids play with them. Right now there's probably 20 lined up under DD's desk.

My son has around 30 but I have way over 1000, probably closer to 2000. I quit counting when I reached a 1000. The only ones out of the packets are the ones I have from garage sales. I started collecting in the 80's.

My little guy (7) isn't that into them, but I had several HUNDRED as a kid! No really - I did!

It's funny that I saw this thread. I just got my 22 year old DS a Playstation 2, and I commented that I miss the days when he'd be thrilled to get a matchbox car. (Not to mention how much easier they were on my pocket.;) )

We have a big carton filled with them tucked away. He easily has 300.

You know those big underbed boxes? My 6 yo DS has 2 of them full of Matchbox/Hot Wheels! Of course, that collection started some 11 yrs ago and has been added to and passed down through the 3 boys. Cars are my DS 6's passion. He wants his room decorated in Nascar! I like the fact that at any store I can spend $.99 on a car or truck and he is totally happy and doesn't ask for anything else. Can't get off that easy w/ my DS 13!
Lillian Vernon has a neat over the door hanging thing that has clear plastic pockets to hold these cars. I just ordered it a couple of days ago. $24.99 I think. After your order they ask you if you want a trial membership to Connections and recieve a $20 gift cert. for Lillian Vernon merchandise.
