Soooo, for their 30th we had a huge party with friends/family/etc but we want to do more.
By "we" I mean my dh and I, as well as my 2 younger brothers and their girlfriends (of at least 3 yrs).

I'm thinking of sending them somewhere but I am a SAHM, and my youngest DB just got a job after moving from Long Island and doesn't have much money.

I should also mention that our mom has some "intestinal issues" to the extent of NEEDING a bathroom multiple (like 20+) times/day so a long flight/trip wouldn't be possible....

Anyone have any suggestions? We live about 20 minutes from Albany, NY and they took their honeymoon @ Salem, Ma....but I don't know if they'd want that again.

He's a golfer and she's not.....

If it's a romantic trip, don't send them near a golf course! I think Salem would be great! There's a lot to do. If not Salem, Boston is also great-or the Cape.

We had a similar problem for my parent's 50th, do we send them somewhere, buy them something, have a big party, my mom hates long trips and has some walking issues, what to do? After a lot if thought we (all the kids/spouses) took them on a family trip to Niagara Falls, Canada. This is somewhere my mother had never been and expressed interest in going. It was really fun, we spent time to together as a family and created some wonderful memories. As others have mentioned, maybe Boston or Cape Cod would be nice for them.

Another thought, The Mohonk House in New Paltz isn't too far away. They have a golf course, beautiful spa, indoor swimming pool, beautiful Victorian gardens, horse and carriage rides, plus a bunch of other low-key activities.

We had also thought of just having a really nice dinner and recreating the environment of their wedding....using the same colors, using the same flowers from her bouquet as centerpieces, making a cd of music from the year they were married etc....but since you have done the big party this probably isn't a good idea.

Oh, my parents (especially mom) LOVE family portraits (a group portrait, just the kids, grandkids etc...include them too!)

Lastly, a short cruise out of NYC (Canada/Bermuda)

Good luck with your plans/decisions!

We did a family cruise out of Boston to Bermuda. 3 kids and spouses and 7 grandkids. It was the best gift! Everyone had a good time and go to do what they wanted.

Of course, Boston was a short drive for all of us so I don't know it that would work for you.

Good luck!

It's funny, we live in Albany and my parents celebrated their 40th this year. We live here and they live in Virginia, so for their present, my sister's family and I shared the cost of a condo for all of us to take them to Rehoboth Beach, DE this past summer. It was $1600 for a week at a 4 bedroom, three bath condo a mile from the beach and with a pool. each family had their own bathroom and bedroom (my sister has two kids so they had two rooms while our two year old was in a pack and play in our room), and we cooked most meals except three dinners out. It was only 6 hours away and was a great place with a boardwalk, great beach, restaurants and stores. My parents LOVED spending the beach time with their grandkids and it we could spend our vacation with them - thus vacation money=anniversary present. We loved it there so much we are going back this year!

Where did you find the townhouse???

One of my favorite trips into NYC was to have lunch at the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station, then to see a play, then have a drink at the St. Regis hotel in the King Cole bar and finally dinner at Del Posto, owned by Mario Batali and Lydia Bastianich.

We took a limo into the city and it dropped us off in front of everything that we wanted. The Oyster Bar is nice for lunch, the St. Regis bar is small, but nice and Del Posto serves meals that you would choose for your last supper.

To plan a day like that would cost some money, but it's something that you don't do every day.

For my parents' 40th, we sent them on a short cruise out of Florida with which we presented them at a surprise dinner party. All of my siblings told my parents that they couldn't make it in for dinner at my parents' house and I feigned other plans for that night. My other local sister asked to take them out for dinner. We had a private dining room in a restaurant and they were shocked to see everyone waiting for them. Mom even cried. She had thought that most of her children didn't care about that milestone anniversary. She was wrong.

Have fun planning!

This is the link to actual townhouse we used:

It was close to the AWESOME outlet shopping and our fave seafood restaurant was right around the corner. There were 9 of us and we never felt crowded.

And this is the rental management place we used - tell Sherry Kimberly Furnish sent you:

I might choose to send them to a nice bed and breakfast place not far from home. Choose one that does a dinner service as well, and then send them for a night. It won't cost a lot and it will be something for just the two of them to commemorate their special day.

thanks everyone!! I don't know how well any of these will work b/c now mom is saying she wants all of us to have a vacation together...but none of us can afford $400/night/couple as most house rentals want so we'll see what happens..
Keep the help coming!!

well, the place I recommended is only about $250 a night and that's for a large group - so for my sis and I, it cost $800 each family which was only a little over $100 a night which is less than most hotel rooms at the beach. there were also other places that were less expensive and smaller - you should look at the realtor's website.

I don't think my mom can make a 6 hr trip each way, though. I'm looking at this place for my dh's family, though :)
