Parenting "skills" I observed today

We have to wash off sippy cups, pacifiers and teething toys. We have dogs, Keeshond and Golden Retriever and a Ragdoll cat so hair, hair, everywhere. If you drop something on the floor at Grandma's house, don't pick it up and eat it, it will have hair on it, sorry. Plus the dogs adore the kids and grandkids who spill and drop things, they dart in very quickly to clean up their messes.

This thread reminds me of that diaper commercial, with your first kid you sterilize everything in boiling water as germs are everywhere. By the time your second kid comes around you watch them blow on a Oreo they just dropped on the floor and just shrug your shoulders.

I am raising strong, independent, street savvy kids. They have been wandering around the resort and parks alone for quite a while now. DS was going to and from the food court alone since at least age 6. Although DD is 11 now, she still wears size 3t underwear and could easily be mistake for much younger. She has been going to the outdoor movie and back by herself for a few years now and makes is back and forth to gift shop all the time.

I would not judge the parents an unattended 5 year old on the elevator

PS. It does crack me up that DD is small enough for us to scam Southwest's "Children under 5" pre-board rule but in 3 moths she will be old enough to fly alone (under their policy)

I use to eat mud pies ( made from real mud lol) .. I live in the UK and French and Europeans are probably more I dependant. By 8 French children are drinking a full bottle of wine with a straw lol and telling you which vine yard it is from lol..

When DD10 was a toddler she loved to eat the dog food. She would knock over the giant bag of food to get to it if I put the food dish out of reach. Luckily it was the dry food and not the wet. I asked the vet about it and he kind of shrugged and said other than the obvious choking hazard it wouldn't hurt her and was a good source of protein. I didn't encourage it and did my best to keep it out of reach but I also didn't call poison control when she did get to it. I never could figure out what she liked about it though.

Maybe her coat wasn't as shiny as she liked?

It is impossible to trace a measles outbreak to a specific surface or a specific ride. If an infected person sneezes or coughs, 90% of the people who either breathe that air or touch a surface that is contaminated and then touch their own mucus membranes will become infected unless they are immune. The virus can live in the air or on surfaces for 2 hours. Literally everything that "patient zero" coughed or sneezed near, as well as the air around them, was a source of contagion.

If someone near you has the measles and you're not immune, you're almost certainly going to get it. It doesn't matter how careful you are about touching things or washing your hands.

Gross!! I'm glad we are all vaccinated. I didn't realize it was also airborne. I don't know where I read something about it being from a ride, but it must have been supposition.

Exactly. Or drinking from the water fountains at WDW. No germs there... :scared:
I shudder to tell the disgusting things I have seen people do at the drinking fountains. Suffice it to say some people treat them like sinks or outdoor spigots. Never drink out of the water fountain at Disney. Any QS or snack food place will give you a free cup of water. Trust me on this!

Wow--my daughter is 3 and about 36 pounds and I was just thinking it's almost time to size up to 4T.

Do I agree with either happening? No.
But since neither appeared to be in danger and weren't running, screaming etc bothering me .... none of my business. Back in the day an adult stepping in to help a child (alone) would be appreciated, but sadly these days can cause a scene. Village theory often backfires.

Unless one of mine is starving the fallen food goes in the trash.
I'm all about building immunity but on vacation ...
Anything that could lead to stomach issues in lines ... no.
On the plus aside from his immunity building ...........he was QUIET!

5 year old wandering hotel alone. NO.
Foreign country means you are more diligent not acting like home.
It makes no difference how mature; they are small.
An adult would have total physical control over a 5 year old.
And can they swim well, those pools are tempting?
I just returned from ASSP, my room right next to a very natural pond.
Warning signs up, but 5 and French I assume they can't read sign.
That alone is terrifying.
Too many what ifs sadly...
Irresponsible, 100% yes.

we just weighed her this morning - 60 pounds on the nose. And she will be 12 at the end of November. Healthy as a horse, strong as an ox and as light as a bird.

My first thought was is the snack something they brought or something they bought there? Because at Disney prices, I might have considered picking it off the ground and eating it! :rolleyes1:mickeybar

(Not really, but unless the food fell directly into something obviously 'yucky', it's probably not that much worse than every time they've touched a railing/table/ride seat/toy they wanted that every other kid has already touched and then stuck their fingers in their mouth.)
