Geesh! Why didn't I see this coming?!?!?!

DS (age 11) juggles in our local amateur youth circus and we let him practice in our family room. It has a high ceiling and he is very good, so there are rarely any clubs that hit a wall or anything important. He is practicing a 4 club routine now and those clubs can really fly. DGD (18 months) loves to watch "Unk" juggle.

Well, she "juggled" today. Her version, though, is to throw it across the room. The first time she did it, we stopped her and did the usual "no-no". After the second time, I realized that she was just copying her "Unk". Yikes! Juggling clubs in 18 month-old hands can destroy a house and/or leave a nasty bruise on the adult trying to get the club out of her ferocious grip. In her mind, these things are meant to fly and she can really make it happen! We often applaud our DS and she even applauded herself after her juggling act. She was so proud of herself!

Looking back, I should have thought of this. She copies everything she sees but this caught all of us off guard.

It wouldn't be so bad if my DS wasn't so scatter-brained, forgeting to put away his clubs and leaving them right where she can grab them. To a toddler, they are shiny, pretty, and "mine".

Any other "kicking myself" parenting stories?
