Can someone who has done this please describe exactly what it's like? How many people go out at a time? How far do they take you out? OK, this next question shows you how little I know about parasailing:blush:: Do you have to get in the water? I'm trying to decide if I'm brave enough to do this on our next cruise! Anything else you can tell me about it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Parasailing is a great experience, especially on Castaway Cay. I did not pre-book my "flight" but when I awakened in the morning the weather was absolutely perfect. So..... I walked up to the booking booth ( just a short walk from the ship on the left), and was able to secure a spot at 10:30am. I think there were 7 of us on a power boat that took us into the open water just beyond the ship and rockery surrounding the lagoon. You can ride by yourself or with someone as long as your total weight doesn't exceed ?lbs. You do not get wet. You are gently elevated from the back of the boat. You get an incredible view of the ship, ocean, and the island. On the day I went, there was only a slight breeze, however I felt a fair amount of tugging/release while in flight. Nothing scary, I just thought it would be a totally smooth ride. I brought my camera up with me and got some really cool photos. The cost was $70 and you are in flight for about 8-10 minutes. You remain in the boat until and party members have had a turn, then return to the dock. It took about 1hr 15min in total. In summary, it was a fabulous experience and worth the time and money!

It is definately an experience not to miss. If you do not want to get wet, make sure the people in your party and the operators are aware of it. They did dunk us while bringing us in. Since you are in a seated position, all that gets wet is your bottom and your legs - maybe up to your waist. It is so peaceful up there and the sights of the water, ship and the island are beautiful. Don't forget to take your camera up there.

Enjoy!!!!!

When you go up with another person, are you both in harnesses or are you seated in what looks like a bench tilted back a little? When my dh and I did this on Maui, we were in the "bench like" thing. Thanks!!

My husb. sat behind me in his harness & me in mine. We didn't get wet at all. It was my first time & although I am generally afraid of heights, I tried it for a WONDERful memory & it was certainly worth it! I highly recommend it.

I felt it was basically a very smooth ride. I expected some pulling & tugging & it was very minimal. We took along two water cameras & had a guy on the boat take some of us ascending & in the air & we used the other to take pictures of each other & of CC, the ship & the beautiful seas from way up high.

My kids went on a different boat & they were "dunked" (only to their hips they said). They thought it was hysterical. I think because I had mentioned that it was my first time they didn't do it to me - nor to another girl who also said it was her first time.

The above photo was taken while my DD 12 and I were parasiling at CC during our August 2003 cruise. We had all first timers on our boat, and all of us were dunked, it was a BLAST!!! It was so peaceful and quiet floating above the water. Go for it!!!

I used a waterproof camera because I had a feeling we were going to be dunked. I would suggest taking a waterproof camera up with you.

I suggest you take a waterproof camera up with you just in case you get dunked!!!

but I've heard that if you don't keep your feet straight out in front of you on landing you could break some toes!!

Someone my hubby works with gave our son this advice....

you come in gently, pop onto the deck and take a few steps on the deck. I wasn't afraid of breaking any toes. There's no way you'll miss the boat, you're on a winch and they just reel you it... I feel like I was the big catch of the day!! LOL

They didn't dunk us, but the other boat (a few teenagers) were dunked... which was fine with me!! It was still wicked cool!!!

Did it twice and really enjoyed it. You go up about 250 ft. The 2nd time I went up I took my video camera. Now when someone asks about it, they see it for REAL. ENJOY:wave2:

One of the excursions I just booked for our cruise is the parasailing. Looking forward to this being a better experience than the 1st time I did parasailing in Nassau (about 20 years ago!). In Nassau, we took off from and landed back on a floating platform out in the water...no winch to bring us back in gently like what we will get at CC. The boat driver had to judge our rate of decent and wind and GUESS where we would land and TRY to get us on the platform OK...some made it back, some didn't make the platform...some of us (me) had a very hard landing and had a piece of plywood for lunch.

DW is hesitant about doing this, but I managed to talk her into it.

31 days and counting.....
