Parasailing on Castaway Cay?

DH is thinking about booking the Parasailing excersion on Castaway Cay. Can anyone share their experiences to help him make up his mind??

If you've never done it before - DO IT!!!!!

It's a blast, a great way to see CC, and if a height chicken like me can do it - anyone can!!!!!

If he does, you need to go up on the ship and take pictures. They will be small unless you have a good zoom but they will be worth it. Two boats go out at once but you should be able to tell which one he is on with a good zoom on your camera. If not, take pictures of both of them up at the same time....that's what my dh did and I'm glad he did.

I've never been parasailing on Castaway Cay, but I've read that you should book it for as early as possible. They seem to cancel a lot of later reservations because it gets too windy.

First, I highly recommend parasailing - it's alot of money for a few short minutes, but the closest you come to flying!

I want to take my DS (will be 12), but the minimum weight is 80lbs. If we did this tandem, obviously we'd surpass that mark. If sailing tandem, does each individual have to weigh at least 80lbs?

My DD went up with my SIL and I know my DD weighed around 90 lbs. My SIL was probably 115 lbs. They loved doing it together. I went by myself and I weigh about 95 lbs. I went up about 1,000 feet and it was AWESOME!! My DH went up also by himself and it is so amazing what you can see from up there. DH brought up the video camera and to relive the experience is great. I took the water camera up with me, the pictures came out beautiful. It was all of our first time doing it and I think DH and DD may go back up again. I loved every minute of it, but may spend the $$$ on a massage this time.

When our daughters went parasailing, we sent them with one of the walkie talkies. My husband and I took the other one with us to the top deck of the ship. They were able to radio us to tell us who was in the air and which boat they were on...there were three different boats taking people up when we were there. It worked out great for us!

PoohJen! i think that the max total weight is 375.

Maybe you and your son and my DH can go at the same time and you can take pictures of each other up in the air !

We just went Parasailing on Castaway Cay, this past Saturday, and it was great. My son was 95lbs, and I am 219. We went Tandem. We also were the last group in the boat of 4 groups to go and we got the best ride. They took right in front of the Wonder and it was incredible. The boat drivers were very friendly and professional.


After we descended, they dipped us 3 times in the water and as soon as we got back in the boat, there was a call from the other boat, and they had a problem. The rope would not reel in, so the riders were stuck. Our boat went under the riders and their boat slowed down, so they would land in ours. The assistant grabbed his legs, and the rest of us pulled on the parachute to give slack so they could unlatch them. The drivers were very calm throughout this and it made me feel better, since they knew exactly what was going on. All of us got into another boat that came out and the people from the other boat that did not finish got into our boat to finish up.

Parasailing (45 minutes, airborne 5-7 minutes)
View Castaway Cay from a whole new perspective as you soar approximately 600-1,000 feet in the air! This aerial adventure is approximately 45 minutes total, with 7-9 minutes airborne. Guests must weigh more than 90 lbs., but must not exceed 375 lbs. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Adult Price: $70 (ages 10 and above)
Child Price: $70 (ages 8-9)

Feenie and Jen,

I went last year at CC for the first time and it was absolutely incredible. I got some fantastic pics. DD8 and I are going tandem this year.

You have to be 8 yrs old to parasail alone or tandem but your 8yr old that weighs under 90lbs can tandem with another person that weighs at least 90lbs. DD might weigh that much at sailing time but I seriously doubt it.

Feenie, tell DH that if he wants to give it a try he should go for it!!

My DH is trying to convince me to take the video camera this year. I'm just afraid I'll drop it and it will be lost forever, along with whatever digital pics we've taken.

How strict are they on age requirment? I have a 7 and 9 that would love to do it (with me and dad). I know the age requirment is 8 but my 7 yr old is bigger than my 9 yr old!

My mom and I did the parasailing last year on CC.... It was SO MUCH FUN!!! They take you right by the boat and that looked really awesome. Also, depending on where you go up you can see sting rays, sharks, etc in the water below you.

I don't think they would mind the age of your children. They people who were doing it when we were they were very cool - there were little kids going up.

If your son is doing the Wildside a good time to go is 2:30 ... Wildside ends at 1.
