I know this is not in the right area but I figures more people pass through here and I need quick answers. Thanks

I'm thinking about going to Kings Island (OHIO) over 4th of July weekend. How is this park? I have a 4 yo and 11 yo. Any nice hotels nearby?

We are from Ohio and love Kings Island. My kids are 12,9,6,1 and we have been going since before they were born. The kid area is fun, just try to get there early as the rides are slow moving in the afternoon. We usually do the water park in the early afternoon and then go back to the hotel to rest and come back for fireworks in the evening. We have stayed at various places and have found the Kings Island inn to noisy for us. We prefer to stay farther away. Have a great time.

Many area locations sell discount tickets-most are 29.99. Both Meijer and Kroger sell them in the Lexington area, along with some Speedway gas stations. Most hotels at the Fields Ertel exit are nice, but beware, we looked at visiting Kings Island over the holiday and found very little hotel availability. What was open had really high prices. The Indians play the Reds that weekend, the hotels fill with Clevelanders for those games.

I think Kings Island is a really quality park. I lived in the Cincinnati area for the past 6 years, and my husband and I always bought season passes. We love it, and there really is a lot for everyone. The kids area is really nice, with some smaller roller coasters for kids or families and tons of rides for your little one too. (Scooby Doo's Haunted Castle is cool). There's also a great Coney Island area with traditional carnival type rides, like the carousel, the scrambler, dodge cars, and the giant swings. They are great! Don't forget to get some Huckleberry Hound blueberry ice cream :)

We've had season passes for a couple of years now. DD4 LOVES it!!! This year they gave the kiddie area a make over with, dare I say, a Nick theme :rolleyes1 . They painted everything giving the whole area a "new" feel. We try to get there early for the kiddie area and then go to the water park in the early afternoon (a little crowded but warmer with a little one) and back to the kiddie area in the evening. I can't say much about the hotels in the area, we drive down and home the same day, but there are a lot, there website has many of them listed.

I live 5 minutes from PKI and there is a really nice motel in Lebanon (15 minutes from the park) called The Shaker Inn, which is small, family ran, clean, has a pool, and affordable rates. I am always recommending this to people who call the campground I work at, needing something close to PKI, but don't camp. I have never heard a bad review.

so is a hotel that is right across the street from Paramount the one that lots of baseball fans stay at, or are those more in town? We were thinking about staying ay comfort suites.

Love Kings Island. Great kiddie area! :thumbsup2 Awesome coasters too if you and hubby are up for some thrills. We usually stay at the Holiday Inn Express nearby and we enjoy it. Have a great time on your trip! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

We're 20 minutes from the park. I honestly believe you and your kids will have a great time. even over the holiday weekend. I highly recommend you get your room reservations in as soon as possible due to the Cleveland Indians being in town to play the Cincinnati Reds that weekend. There are lots of low price to mid price hotels all up and down the I-71 corridor. Just type in your favorite hotel chain and I'm sure you'll find something close by.

The suggestion of checking at a local Krogers or Meijer store for discounts is also an excellent idea, as well as looking on line at the PKI web site for discounts. Have fun!

We were just there Saterday. :teeth:

We stayed at the Kings Island Resort and Conference center. It was nice because it was located almost right across from the park. They had a shuttle to take you to and from the park. I think that was the nicest part. The rooms themselves were about average I'd say. I have no idea price wise what they there. We were invited by DH's family.

My DD age 4 had tons of things she could ride. The water park is also very fun.

IF you have any specific questions feel free to ask me. I think the official website doesn't tell you much.

Have fun!!

check the online site something like www2.paramountparks.com/kingsislnad there are multiday passes and discounts for purchashing early on line etc. we have passes to the paramount park Carowinds in North Carolina and love it.

Kings Island is the park I grew up with as a kid. I didn't make it to Disney World until I was 18, so this was the epitome of parks for me until that time. It's a great park for families with their large, newly rededicated children's area. (Used to be Hanna Barbera Land, now Nickelodeon Universe. Frankly, I was disappointed when they took out all the old Hanna Barbera characters like Scooby, The Flintstones and The Jetsons, not to mention Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear and the others.) The rest of the park can be fun for children too, so don't just spend the whole day with SpongeBob and Dora the Explorer. Check out the Coney Mall area, it's basically a midway with games and rides, but a whole lot cleaner than what you might think of as a typical midway at, say, a fair. As for food, if you like Cincinnati style chili (a thin, almost runny chili served over spaghetti with lot's of cheddar cheese on top and if you like, hot sauce) try the Skyline Chili. (By the way, this is a chain of restaurants, so you can get this outside the park as well. Or try Gold Star chili if you are interested, it's the same type of chili.) I believe they also still have the Montgomery Inn restaurant where you can get some good barbecue ribs. In Rivertown try the pizza place (you can also get pizza on International Street near the entrance to the park.) When I was a kid, I thought it was the best pizza in the world, but either my tastes or the pizza have changed a bit. I still like it, but it's not the best ever. Anyway, although Kings Island has changed tremendously from when I first starting going, I still enjoy myself every time. The first time I rode a monorail wasn't at WDW, it was at Kings Island. They used to have a monorail that traveled through a wild animal safari. It cost an extra $1 to ride it, but it was air conditioned and a fairly long ride. But that's gone now, in it's place are a few rollercoasters, Top Gun and Son of Beast. (By the way, unless you're a rollercoaster fanatic, steer clear of Son of Beast. It's likely to give you back pains for the rest of the week.)
A bit of trivia: Did you know that an episode of The Brady Bunch was filmed at Kings Island, shorly after the park opened? (around 1972) I think the guy who played Greg even mentions the episode in his book, Growing Up Brady. He referred to Kings Island as "A poor man's Disneyland." But then, nothing can really be compared to Disney parks.

We love Kings Island. That was our destination for this summer until hubby suggested we go to Disney. (Love that man). Anyhow, one thing I was unaware of until we went there last time is that the water park is part of the amusement park admission - you don't have to pay extra to get in if you are already at the amusement park. They even have a walking path between the two. Be sure to take swimsuits, towels etc. and take a break from the heat with some refreshing water park fun!

Doesn't anyone else feel that the quality of King's Island has really gone down since Paramount took over? The place used to be really well kept, and by comparison now it just feels almost run-down.

Don't get me wrong, you can still go and have fun for the day, but man, these days we go and it's kinda sad for us as well.

I am just really worried that lines will be out of control. I wan to get on at least a couple of rides.

I kinda thought the same. Still a great time, but something was off. The good news is, the Paramount Parks were recently bought by the same company that owns Cedar Point & Knott's Berry Farm. Probably won't see any changes until next season, I'd guess.

Have a great time! Oh, and if you get hit with a rainy day, head down to Newport, KY - they have a neat area with an IMAX and a great Aquarium.

We were thinking about staying at Springhill Suites. The rooms are a little larger which is good for our family and the breakfasts are pretty good. Does anyone know about how far away that is from KI? Also, how is The Beach waterpark?

We've been several times this year and I must say I am thinking it is changing now for the better at last. The new Nickelodeon themed kid area is amazing! We've done the whole park and I noticed a big difference. The employees seemed to be friendlier and better trained, the park was clean and they seem to be offering better shows along with a new character breakfast. This past winter they brought back Winterfest which I thought was a huge step in the right direction. I even noticed that the shops were more like they were back in the good old days. They have even brought back the glass blower guy too. I'm really excited about the positive changes. With the new indoor water park/hotel going up right next door this fall I'm sure we'll be seeing even better changes!

We are leaving on Tues. 6/20 to spend 4 days and 3 nights at KI (2 days at the park). The younger kids are like "what's KI" and the older one laughes! They are so spoiled by WDW :rotfl: We are staying at a residential suite hotel about 15 minutes away. It sleeps 6 and has a complete kitchen. We are paying $305 for 2 nights and 2 two day adult tickets and an additional $105 for the 3rd night. Kids over 7 are considered adults (and we thought Disney was bad) and i don't know if you can (or need to) make reservations for meals. I had to cancel our WDW trip this year so this is it. I am kindof stressing over things, because i can't plan like I do for Disney!
