Considering this instead of a separate partition but not sure about a virtual OS

Any one have experience positive or not?

I had Parallels on my iMac until I upgraded to LION. Then it stopped working because it wasn't supported. I wasn't happy about that and did not buy the newer version.

You still have to have Windows on a separate partition anyway, I think. Parallels just lets you access it without rebooting.

Wow. Doesn't seem much point. I was hoping to delete the partition.

Thanks

I've got VM Wear Fusion installed on my MBP. It doesn't require a separate partition on the HD. Not sure why I bother though since I really don't use it.

I use parallels, it works fine. I only have it installed for school purposes and I can't wait to uninstall windows.

Trying VMware Fusion. I liked their support. It's also cheaper and it didn't appear to require me to keep the partition. Installation was mostly painless.

I still have several MS programs that are not offered on a Mac OS. Also, our cable provider is going to "Microsoft Mediaroom" for the OS on its STBs.

And while I like the MacBook Pro immensely, quite honestly, I don't see that Mac OS is all that better than any version of Windows, including Windows 8. This isn't a slam on the OS, but it doesn't live up to the hype, either. :rolleyes1

:duck:

Make sure you've got lots of RAM for good performance while the VM is running.

Depending on what you want to run, can I suggest Crossover?

Its an emulator rather than a virtual machine so you don't need a copy of Windows to run it, but it isn't compatible with everything.

Its based on wine and works pretty well.

I'm running 10.7x and it's fine on it, and it supports 10.8 too. No partition, just whatever files it needs to run it a folder.

If you go on the Crossover website you can type in the name of the game\app and it'll tell you the level of compatibility it has.

I run the windows version of Steam and the latest Magic the Gathering Game as well as Skyrim with it with no problems. :)

Same here. I use VMWare Fusion.

I just use bootcamp and install a full version of Windows in a partition, the only reason I wanted a Windows based machine is to play Steam games

Is this like Reindeer games? ;)

I appreciate all the comments and help.

I've just about talked myself into deleting the Windows 8 partition and not using Fusion either. With the Adobe Cloud subscription, I'm down to using Windows for one financial program. I can use that on my Windows desktop or my Windows 8 work laptop.

With a full-frame digital camera, I need gigabytes more than I need the access to this one program.

Im starting to wonder why I should keep the partition just for one program and the possibility that Microsoft Mediaroom (which will be owned by Ericsson by the time it is installed at my house).

Sound's like you just need Remote Desktop for Mac. :rolleyes1

I know I'm a bit late on this post, but I have parallels running on my MBP and I love it. I support mostly Windows servers and windows users, but the company owner has a Mac so I have that so I can support him. Parallels installs VM's just like other vm products. The VM is stored as a file on the Mac partition. I have Windows XP, Windows 7, Window 8.1 preview, Windows 2008 Server core, CentOS 6.4, OpenFiler, and LinuxMint 15 installed on my MBP. Couldn't live without Parallels. I Love it:love:

This thread is timeous :thumbsup2

TomTom died while at WDW, the other day while we are at WDW/Orlando. So I bought new Live model.
Cannot get Home to work with MBP and it seems that this is a know problem given the volume of complaints on a Google search.

For the first time since jumping from Windows I have been considering Boot Camp and Windows so that I can maintain the map updates on the TomTom.
I will definitely need a fix so that I can put on the UK and Europe maps when I get home :coffee:
