Paradise Pier & Disneylan Hotel - how close?

We are spending 5 nights at the Disneyland Hotel (our first trip) and our friends are staying at the Paradise Pier. How close are they? While we will be doing most things together, being in separate hotels shouldnt be too much of a hardship. But if the older kids wanted to move between the 2 hotels, is it an easy, and more importantly, safe walk?
Also, does either hotel have laundry facilities?

Here is an arial view of the area. The two hotels are in the upper left hand corner.

Depending on your location in the hotels and what floor you are on it could be 3-7 minutes of travel time. I do not know if they have been fixed but the elevators in the Paradise Pier hotel were VERY slow when we were there.

I have never used the laundry facilities in either hotel there but I am sure they have something like laundry service for those people staying multiple days. It seems like I have seen that in print somewhere.

Now, as for the closeness between the two hotels, yes, it is a very safe walk. I have never seen any unsavory folks hanging out and looking ominous. There is a sort of walkway/path that you can follow that will lead you to the other hotel. I mean, I am used to walking, so to me, it did not seem far at all. However, my companions were not necessarily thrilled with the walk from Paradise Pier to the actual parks. So, it all depends on what you are all used to. It is not a huge layout like WDW is, so everything is closer together out here. There are shortcuts, too, but you have to kind of be there to get the lay of the land and see what they are. I know I wasn't much help, but don't worry - it won't be too bad. It would be a farther walk if you were staying at a non-Disney hotel outside of the resort and then coming to meet your friends at the PPH.

To get from the Paradise Pier hotel to the Disneyland hotel, you need to walk out the back doors of the Paradise Pier. You will find a very safe, relatively traffic free walkway leading to the west end of Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotel. The walk is about 5 minutes.

The Disneyland Hotel does have guest laundry facilities, but I don't think the Paradise Pier hotel has any guest laundry facilities.

The laundry room for both DLH and PP is at DLH. Near the pool area, I've heard. No facilities in PP, you are directed over to DLH.

They aren't that far apart. But for the PP stayers, unless they REALLY want to walk to and from the parks with you guys, will have a shorter walk if they cut through the GCH instead of following the directions in PP to get to the parks. Meeting you guys at the parks will give them a shorter walk, and separating from you guys on the walk back by going into the GCH between Libby Lu and Sephora will be a shorter walk for the way back.

We are both staying on DVC points. We are thinking about waitlisting to be in the same hotel. Since neither of us has stayed in DL, we dont know which hotel would be better. We are currently booking in standard view rooms. The point difference is only 5 points total for the 5 days.
We are a family of 3 (me, DH & DD- 15), they are a family of 4 (DW, DH, DS - 14 & DD 11). Any recommendations or preferences for families of our sizes?

Very much agree with this. Meet in the DL line 30-40 min. before opening or in the parks.

Also, when walking back to both the hotels after visiting DCA....use the GCH entrance/exit (next to Griz Rapids) & back to your respective hotels by walking thru the GCH.

I think the teens (and the adults too) would prefer the Disneyland hotel, but I'm also a big fan of the Paradise Pier hotel (always received nice big rooms and great service here), so you really can't go wrong with either.

But, the Disneyland hotel has a faster pool slide (although smaller than the one at the Paradise Pier), the pool at the DL hotel has a great theme and is much larger. The hot tub at the DL hotel is VERY LARGE, plus the hotel also has a nice quiet pool. The grounds of the DL hotel are very pretty, with lots of folage, koi fish ponds, and waterfalls. The DL hotel is also more convenient to Downtown Disney, as well as the Downtown Disney Monorail station.

The rooms at both hotels are large and roomy (most of the rooms anyway), and although the rooms at the DL hotel may have a few extra Mickey touches, I actually prefer the decor of the rooms at the Paradise Pier. (That's just me though. Some prefer the room decor at the Disneyland Hotel.)

Both hotels have decent arcades, but if the kids are old enough to go out on their own a bit, the Disneyland Hotel is practically next door to the ESPN Zone. (The Paradise Pier hotel is about a five minute walk, but a safe walk, from the ESPN Zone.)

As I said, both hotels are great, but if you can, try to get both families in at the Disneyland Hotel. But if you can't, and instead can get both families in at the Paradise Pier, don't be disappointed because it's a great hotel too (plus you can watch the fireworks from the Paradise Pier pool deck where they pipe in the music/narration).

Hope everyone has a magical time!:wizard:
