If you are going to DIsneyland you don't want to cut GCH that entrance leads to California Adventure. We walked through Downtown Disney and rode the Monorail into the park.
We stayed at Disneyland Hotel and the key worked at the gate. (It has worked since the parks reopened.). If you are headed to Disneyland, you can cut thru. If DCA, you can cut thru, or use the gate prior to the entry to DCA to enter (key required.)

So wait....when you're talking about other keys opening 'the gate', are you talking about the 'main' GCH gate on the sidewalk by the porte cochere or the 'new gate' along the pathway to the DCA entrance that opens into the grounds by the DVC wing?

Well, that opens a world of possibilities as far as staying at PPH if one can open the GCH gate and enter the lobby. As someone who has a slight mobility impairment it could save a LOT of steps.
I normally stay at the GCH and have stayed at the DLH, so if I stay at the PPH I'll have completed the DLR 'onsite Trifecta'.
