Parade viewing questions...

In the MK where is the best spot to view the parades? I am guessing in Aug. shade will be very important. Also, do the parades still stop periodically on the route and pick children to participate? My girls' would love that.

'Participate' might be too strong a term... If you're thinking they stop the parade and have kids come out and dance & play - then no, not usually. From our experience, characters on floats will wave at individual children and talk to them, and ambulatory characters will walk up to kids and interact more fully. For example, Snow White (on a float) heard my daughter say "Hi, Snow White" and responded with a very demure "How sweet", and the Toy Story army men will come up to kids, stick tongues out, salute, etc. For some reason my kids seem to be Pluto magnets.

As far as seating for parades, I prefer to sit on an outside curve (the parade routes are shown on the park maps) or on Main Street. Outside curves give you a deeper field of view (for cameras), Main Street would be a good sentimental choice. Get there 45 minutes to an hour early, and send somebody out for snacks & drinks for the wait. Sometimes they've already have the ropes placed, but if not look for tape lines on the concrete along the parade route. Toe that line, and hold it. Double strollers work great for saving your space, if you don't have a large group. In my experience, do not have your heart set on one of the benches (unless you are handicap - even then there are better viewing opportunities with the help of cast members). The reason I say avoid the benches is that most of the time they wind up 2-3 rows back by the time the parade rolls through, due to the crush of the crowds. Usually, amount of shade is not an option or deciding factor for us.
