This may be a silly question, but....how are the families picked for the float that leads the Animal Kingdom parade?? We will be there on DS's 7th birthday and I was wondering if it is possible to do?!! Thank you

I think it would be being at the right place at the right time..like it was for my sister and me when we were picked to be Grand Marshals in the parade at Magic Kingdom.....We figured...being two grandmothers (by ourselves)...we'd never be picked....but, as you can see...we were! :woohoo: :teeth: :rotfl: :cool1: :thumbsup2 :yay:

which proves my point.....

i'm never in the right place at the right time! :teacher:

Keep an eye out for the CM's running around with clipboards. A lady running around AK with a clipboard asked us if we wanted to be in the parade and then wrote down our names and told us where to meet them at before the parade. I was in the Mickey's Float! :cool1: The only problem is that it takes out two hours of your touring time because you have to meet them a hour before the parade starts. This made us have to come back to AK on a second day to get all the attractions done. You do get a look at their backstage area though, which I though was cool.

Got it 1)clipboarded lady
2) right place
3) right time..... as always thank you guys for your advice ;)

My DH and I were Grand Marshalls at the parade in MK in 2003. Our CM didn't have a clipboard...but he did write our names down on a park map he had with him. (Maybe he forgot his clipboard that day?) :rotfl: My advice...look happy, and be nice to every CM you meet...we were picked because we were lucky (there's that right place, right time thing), and because DH was chatting with the CM enough for him to know we would really appreciate the honor...and actually, he said that most people who are asked turn down the opportunity! I can say that we were picked pretty much right after park opening, so I suspect they usually make their selections early in the morning.

Good luck!

My DH and I were in the AK parade during our honeymoon in 2003. We were getting ready to have lunch at the Tusker House when a CM asked if we were planning on staying for the parade later. We weren't planning on staying but after being asked if we wanted to be in it agreed that we didn't a nap that badly. We were wearing our bride/groom ears so that might have helped. It was the highlight of our honeymoon and we felt like celebrities.

We weren't picked for the parade at AK, but we were picked for "The Awakening". We were standing in line waiting for the park to open when two cast members who were walking around outside the gates walked up and asked if we wanted to open the park for the day. They put our kids in CM shirts and announced them in front of the crowd. It was a nice experience for us as a family.

Good Luck!

Same thing with us. We were on our honeymoon in 2001 and wearing our bride/groom ears. It was first thing in the morning and we were headed to the safari. We had 2 cm's step in front of us and said "We know you are trying to get to the safari but how would you like to be in the parade today?". Of course we said we would love to. We were on the last float of the parade with the mouse himself. As we were leaving the backstage area a cm took a couple of pictures of us on the float with a disposable camera and then gave us the camera to keep. It is something we will always remember. Good luck and have fun.
