Papermasher bags? (Tried them. Post #31)

OP, I think this brilliant! I have tons of shredding that just doesn't get done in a timely basis, this would take care of big chunks of it easily. I love it and hope it shows in stores too, I would totally buy it. Love that the reporter tested it too. Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2
On the other hand, waiting 'til you have a big chunk of stuff to destroy would be a negative. Perhaps a business collects bunches of stuff a day and would "run a load of papers" routinely, but at home I don't have all that much stuff to destroy, and keeping it around 'til I have enough would defeat the purpose.

I've never heard of this product.

Do you have to run a separate load of laundry, or can this go in along with a small load of towels? If so, it wouldn't be wasteful at all.

I read the FAQ on the website. It says alone. No laundry. You can do 8 lbs per bag. Can use 2 bags. I don't know any more than what they put on their website. I only learned about it yesterday myself on Facebook on an organizers page I follow.

When my husband was deployed last year to Afghanistan, they would shred the paper, but then used the shredded paper to turn into fuel donuts for the locals.

In soldiers spare time, the volunteered to make these. They put the shredded paper in barrels. Added water. Mashed it to pulp. Put the pulp into a tube. Pressed the water out. And put the fuel donut (about the size of a roll of tp) out to dry for days. Locals used them for heat & cooking. Soldiers gave them out while talking to locals & seeking info. Gave out care packages for children too.

Here is the process. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsT2XqQaG8w

Perhaps its what it reminded me of & why I was interested.

If pulping sensitive documents is good enough for the military in a war zone, it's probably good enough for our house. :goodvibes

Some uses for the mashed up paper. http://papermasher.wordpress.com/2012/06/10/ive-papermashed-whats-next/

They were not pulping sensitive documents but shredded sensitive documents. Big difference. :)

all can say is, glad we have a burn pile!:goodvibes

& no, don't care I am killing a bunch of carbon footprints:stir:

curious,, 8 lbs in a bag, whinging its way around in a spin cycle........ umm, wouldn't that just mess it up? how on earth would it spin? we get one sock out of place (seems like) & it wants to walk across the floor

I like this and am thinking about getting it.

Karen :)

I went ahead & ordered a set of 2. Its that time of year where I am cleaning out filing cabinet. And helping elderly parents make a clean up, so maybe they can use the other one.

Probably don't need to use it except maybe once a month after the great purge of 2013.

Fingers crossed it works well. Willing to spend a little money to try it out.

Once you've used them please let us know how they work.

It's really working - we have hundreds of happy customers. Read some comments on our facebook page - FB/Papermasher

FYI, you may be crossing the line as it relates to advertising as per the T&C.

Finally filled my bag enough to try it. Worked exactly as advertised. My bags are the newer zippered version. I didn't have any pieces of paper left in the aftermath with any info that was readable at all. Not a single piece of print. My machine is a front load HE machine. I only put in 1 bag. Not the both of them. My machine usually spins everything very dry, but there was definitely some water left in the paper pulp. I just emptied the bag contents into the trash though.

I see they used my quote on their FB page? :confused3 Wasn't sure how I felt about that at first, but I think I'm ok with it. It sounds a bit misleading though now that I read it.

Maybe this is a better video to link to it though. Explains the military's use of shredded paper to make fuel donuts. Just to be accurate & not mislead anyone, military does not pulp the paper only. They shred & pulp. This is what my husband did with some of his time off instead of sitting in his room.

I would post & correct them on their FB page, but I don't want my name here linked to my real name. I'm careful about that kind of stuff.
