I'm sure input on this has been given many times over and I did do a search which resulted in pages of info but none specific to what I was wondering about. I don't want to use regular paper for making autograph books, I would like them to be archival and a bit heavier since they will no doubt get tossed around while being carried for the week.

What kind of paper is everyone using? A friend of mine has offered to print out our pages and he thinks that card stock may be too heavy for his printer to handle. In that case what would be a good substitute that isn't going to break the bank (I have to make two) yet will be durable and last?

How are you all making your covers?

Pictures and any hints would be great!

I used 4/6 cards (no lines). They are making them cheaper these days so it wasn't a heavy card stock :lmao: . I put them in a photo book from the dollar store & attached a binder clip to the front. When I saw a character I found them in the book (put in there in alpha order), pulled them out, clipped them to the front of the book and had the character sign. It worked well. :thumbsup2

I posted the same question a couple weeks ago and i still dont know what I'm using yet. Most people told me card stock. Some1 told me to use photo paper which would look really good but I'm not sure about that cuz wont the marker/sharpie I have the character write with smudge if touched? What do you think?

Index cards? I know nothing about the products that are out there so forgive my stupidity. :confused3 How do you go about printing those off? At first I was thinking about doing a 4X6 book so it sounds like that would work great, but now I am thinking about a 5X7. Ugh.

If you are using something other than index cards could you please send me a link of what you are talking about? The person that is printing them off for me lives in a different state and is mailing them to me as soon as he has them finished. I need to show him via computer what I want him to buy to print the images on.

I would think construction paper wouldn't be very archival and if a Sharpie is used it will bleed to the back.

Not sure where you live in OH but if you are near or can get to Cleveland there is a great store called Hollo's they sell card stock in 5x7, 6x8, A4 all kinds of sizes for about 1.00 for 100 cards

What about photo paper? I think it would look really great but do you think it would smudge?

I wasn't sure about that and I was also concerned with cost since I am printing out 180 images for two books. If I went that route I would have to take a Sharpie since nothing else would really work on photograph paper and we like to take those jumbo pens so the characters can hold them better. Almost all of their handlers commented to us last year how they were appreciative we used a jumbo pen instead of a regular one.

You can get post card paper at Wal Mart, that has 4 cards on one sheet and they are perforated. That is what I plan to use for my autograph books. It not as heavy as card stock, but should hold up pretty well and they print in most all printers.

Here is a link to instructions for making autograph books. It's really helpful

Hope this helps!!

These are great ideas. Man, I didn't even think about the weight of the paper. DUH! We only have b&w, so I will have to figure out a way to get to a color printer. hmmm....
