Paper debarkation luggage tags

that is really sad. But then again the really sad part would be if someone actually bids on them.

I don't know if it is the same person or it there have been copycats, but I've seen those listed on eBay on and off for over a year now. I usually do a search that says Disney Cruise Line and at least once a month I see the luggage tags for sale. It is pretty sad especially since the one time I opened it up to look at it they made it sound so special...."only available on the ship"..."complete set". Like these were highly collectible!

The funniest thing is that it says "These are great gifts"...boy would THAT be a lousy gift to get LOL!!!

those aren't even what they had on the magic 5/25--we also had Captain Mickey, Tinkerbell and Donald Duck.

Cute, but hardly a great "gift" idea!

You can find all manner of "worthless" DCL items on Ebay, including the paper tags, cruise documents, and even Navigators (a set of those from FEB. went for over $27!!!). I guess people just don't know any better. Pretty sad that some people feel they have to make a buck by ripping off others.

The only way they would make a great gift is if the cruise came with the tags. It still can not believe that people would buy somthing like that.

People must not realize what they are buying. Someone paid over $4 for just ONE of those, which the buyer had listed as "an exclusive luggage tag available only to those who stay in the suites." The fact that it was made from paper was buried in the description, and I guess their description of "exclusive" means "available to one and all on a table by guest services."

When people say " that's pretty sad and what a rip off" it makes me wonder what you think of the people who deal in disney pins as a buisness, or a hobby and sell on e-bay, do you think that these people are sad and rip off artists also?. We have a whole DIS board devoted to trading pins. It seems to me that what a person chooses to buy sell trade is their own buisness. If some one who was on a cruise and came home to tell their friends what a great time they had and then made their friends a nice framed wall plague with some of these souvenirs, and a second friend liked it so much that they also wanted one. so that person had to get some more of those items from e-bay, trading or whatever, are they also "very sad". Like I said what one person chooses to do with their time, money etc. should be their buisness.
We might be the lucking ones who have been on the Disney Cruises, been to WDW, but not everyone can do this. If some of these items are auctioned off for charities, like Make a Wish, to send those unfortunate to WDW and Cruises, maybe you would not be so critical of others.

Thanks for letting me vent a little, but as I have said, each to their own, we don't know the whole story.

Lets just let the other guy do his thing without being overly critical!! :D

Junior:

No one is trying to be ugly here, but I think you're missing the point. Pin selling/trading is one thing... but misrepresenting an item that is "free" as some type of collector's item... isn't right and that's the point we're making.

Pugdog, you said it so well!!!
When free items are represented as "rare," "not available anywhere else," etc., or when old navigators that are worthless are sold as something that is useful, that's when I have a problem with it. One of those auctions even keeps the bidders "private" so no one can email them and warn them they are being ripped off. That shows they know that what they are doing is wrong!
I myself have sold pins and our excess Castaway Club bags on Ebay, but those are items with value and I have described them accurately and put a fair "Buy It Now" price on them. I can't even count the number of trading cards my hubby has given away to help people complete their collections...I suppose we could sell them, but they are given out free on the ships and we like to make people happy by helping them out. It's so much nice to help than to rip people off...I hope the $$ those people are making are enough to pay of their conscience because it sure wouldn't be enough for mine!

Pugdog & Barb hit it on the head.

As for pins. I'm a collector and I've bought things off of eBay for pins that I really wanted. I know the limits of what I can afford.
What I don't care for are people who hog pins and buy them only to make lots of money. I have a 7 day pin from the Eastern. I was hoping to have one from the Western as well and asked both on the cruise board and pin board to see if anyone was going if they would be willing to pick one up for me at cost plus shipping and maybe even a little profit. No takers. When they got back I posted again and all I got was an e-mail from some guy who said if we lived close maybe we could work something out that wouldn't even cost me very much - not quite sure if he was saying what I think he was but I didn't respond. Yet eBay is now full of people making $75-100 on those pins. Way out of my league. I collect for fun and memories not profit.

I was also at California Adventure on the day of the 1st anniversary and could not stand how pushy people were at the pin stands. I just wanted one of everything as a rememberece but the "big collectors" were just pushing all over the place. Not a fun experience.

If you can get to the parks often and can get special pins and you want to sell them more power to you. But to those who only care about the almighty dollar that is sad. Is it a rip-off? That is up to each person. Like I said I know what my limits are and don't go over those limits.

As for people selling paper luggage tags which is where this discussion started - yeah that is a big rip off and those people should be ashamed.

WDWLVR, since I'm not a pin collector I haven't experienced the pushiness of the hardcore collectors, but I have had similar experience with hardcore baseball card collectors.

We live in the Atlanta area and are big fans of the Atlanta Braves. A couple Springs ago we went to Florida to watch the Braves play at a couple different Spring Training games. We planned this trip months in advance and bought our tickets on the day the tickets went on sale. We got pretty good seats at all the parks we went to including front-row seats at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

But we couldn't enjoy these seats prior to the games because the autograph hounds were at the fences pushing each other and everybody else out of the way in their attempt to get any player to sign cards and balls. And when a player <i><b>did</b></i> come along the fences to sign cards and balls, these "fans" exhibited an entitlement attitude that was hard to take... they didn't appreciate that the fans were taking time out of their pre-game warmup routine to do this for them.

Hard-core collectors can take the fun out of collecting anything, I guess.

I read that eBay was going to start cracking down on people selling items that are regarded as one of a kind or limited additions. They are going to use a new software and check the listings that have suspicious wording in order to eliminate some of the fraudulent claims that people make on some items.

It makes me sick to think of what people will do or say in order to make a lousy buck!
