Pantry Organization

We try to stay organized in general, and either my DH or I have our OCD moments when things get taken apart, shelves tidied, and put back more organized. We discovered JosephJoseph products a few years ago when our storage container cabinet was overflowing. I love their products. I’m not one to label things and love that their storage containers are color coded. They are compact and don’t take up a lot of space, and containers nest inside one another when not in use.

I found some pics from when I first started. That one shelf is now full of those Sistema containers.

Several months ago I came across a tutorial on youtube of a women organizing her pantry with dollar tree store baskets . It immediately lite a fire under my bum to do the same. I organized all my pantry items into baskets , except can goods , of course. Using bins and plastic canisters from my local dollar tree store. It was so funny, I just came across it, by a fluke , and wham went into action, haha. I love it now being so organized, even bought the labels to label things there as well.
I forgot, my bathroom cabinets are all organized into little tubs. Once you get started you want to contain everything. It becomes sorts of an obsession.

Do all of you actually have a pantry?
Well, not what I truly call a pantry, which would be a small closet-type area with lots of shelves and drawers for food and kitchen accessory storage.

But, in modern homes a big cabinet/shelf unit, usually somewhere in the kitchen is now called a "pantry". That's what I have.

I don't like hiding things in baskets. But I'm like the other poster who has specific shelves for things - cans on one shelf, breakfast foods on another, baking stuff on another. Higher shelves are storage for duplicates. Lower shelves for paper products. I like everything tidy and easy to see.

Our pantry is organized. Upper shelves have small appliances and some bakeware. The lower half is three pull out shelves of varying heights.

When I lived by myself I kept everything organized and neat. Now, everything is a disaster in the cabinets and pantry.

OMG That's an AMAZING space!!
Searc it is my pride and joy LOL - when we designed our house, the builder was horrified when I drew it into the plans. Converted to imperial measurements it is approx 20ft by 6ft and runs the total length behind my kitchen.

I just spent all weekend cleaning my pantry and getting it back to neat!

I love this pantry! 😍

so well organized ! on the top right, I can’t see 😎, if I may ask, is that wine ?

The flooring you have, looks like what I have throughout my home, kitchen and all!

Mommasita - yes that it the wine stash! My gin collection is in the dining room so it's even closer to hand . The timber is right through our kitchen, dining, living room and kids' toy room - so much easier to clean up isn't it?

I think I’m gonna have to find space and get my handy husband busy 🤔

Omg yes, my husband was so absolutely against it, but I stood my ground and said I did NOT want mixed flooring, and wanted clean lines, we have an open floor plan upstairs, and it is in the kitchen, dining room, living area, as well as the one bedroom upstairs. It is a breeze to clean.

i guess technically i have 2 pantry's-one in the house/one in the garage. the one in the house is a closet (full size like a hall closet w/2 large sliding doors) that originally had 2 wire shelves but i cut them just beyond the middle supports so i could slide in a 4 shelf unit. in that one i keep most jarred products, pasta/dry goods, condiments/most dressings and a supply of snack items. the garage portion-i'm lucky in that i have a 3 car attached garage that is also insulated so i bought 4 five shelf (good quality) racks from amazon. on those shelves are all my canned and oversize jarred (think costco size) items, i also keep the cat's chewey orders there to replenish the inside pantry (also a fan of using a small trash can for dry food). back up snacks or the larger containers of snacks that replenish the indoor pantry are stored out there.

in addition-i have one dedicated 2 shelf kitchen cabinet for breakfast items that holds cereals, pancake/waffle mixes and the waffle maker, a dedicated 2 shelf baking cabinet that holds everything related to that EXCEPT flour b/c i keep it in the freezer b/c it will keep indefinitely along with chocolate chips and nuts, and a double 2 shelf cabinet that holds all large containers of spices (to refill spice rack or the big ones like taco seasoning that are self contained), liquid type flavorings (tobasco, soy sauce, honey...), salt, pepper and 'mixes' (brown bag chili, dry marinades...), the drawer below the cabinet, under the counter is either spices i don't have designated jars for on my overly tall spice lazy-susan or back up for refills.

as far as appliance go-in my opinion the greatest space waste in most homes is the linen closet. my laundry room is wide enough for 2 large wicker racks that all towels/bedding can fit on so all my appliances (except the toaster and the kitchen aide) live in the linen closet so they don't clutter up my kitchen cabinets or counter.

Wow! Kyton, I am IN AWE! What a gorgeous pantry!

My pantry is "just" typical 5-ft closet. Really, plenty of room, but I'm feeling inadequate now! We did a to-the-studs remodel of our kitchen a couple years back--the size/location of the pantry didn't change, but we know an awesome woodworker who had built a reading nook under the stairs for us--he built a new pantry for me, within the space that was already designated. So, I have adjustable, real wood selves, with a couple hanging baskets and space down at the bottom for weird, larger stuff. I have some baking things in there--mostly stuff for pizza-making (peels, a pizza stone). Next to my fridge, I had a small slice of space (maybe 18" wide), that we put doors and sliding shelves in--that holds my small appliances.

I found some containers at the Dollar Tree that I used in mine. They're not as sleek as the pop-top or OXO ones you often see on Pinterest, but they are significantly cheaper and I bought extras in case I ever need a container for something else.

Remember the movie, "Sleeping with the Enemy?" I could never understand why it was so hard for Julia Roberts to keep the can labels facing forward or her towels even on the rods. Not that it was worth beating someone over, but I was like, "duh, doesn't everyone do that?"

So my pantry is a 6'x6' closet with shelves on both sides, to the ceiling. There is a place for everything and I have far too much in storage in that closet, but I went to the grocery store for the first time since March 14th yesterday. I ran out of the first major thing and was really mad at myself. We ran out of dish liquid.

The pantry is completely full again. I have 3 freezers, a fully stocked bar and a wine cellar. We're running low on Ginger Beer for Moscow Mules, though.

I don't use containers. It would annoy me to have to transfer from boxes to containers and to not be able to see what is in the bins. I love the look, it's just not for me to keep that organized.

Early on in the quarantine I cleaned out and organized the pantry. To an extent it is still organized. The clean out got rid of foods with long past expiration dates. The only containers are for open cereal. All the mashed potatoe packets were put into an empty Girl Scout cookie case.

In between, we don't use containers at home (we use baskets and containers in the RV) but we do have shelves sort of designated for like items. Cereals, flour, baking items on one shelf. The stuff only my honey eats on one shelf, the healthy stuff I eat on another shelf. Condiments and teas on one shelf and the condiments are lines up with like items. The floor has big items on it. We have canned goods in a cabinet next to the pantry.

I guess in between. It’s just me and I usually have maybe 5 items in my pantry so it’s typically just empty shelves 😂

However, with the current craziness I’ve had to eat at home and delivery is exhausting so I do have a “full” pantry. I have one bin for bags of nuts and when I toss the box because there’s one of something left.

I don’t bake or even seriously cook so I don’t keep flour, sugar, baking powder/soda, corn starch etc. I don’t think I have an actual pantry staples so that’s not an issue.

I have neat rows of pasta and microwave rice and jars of artichokes and other fru fru jarred veggies.
