Although it's not forbidden, avoid taking food or drink through security checkpoints. After security has verified that your beverage is harmless soda, you may not want it any more. Food is almost always available for purchase in gate areas past security.

found this on one of the airport security web sites.

As long as you only have on piece of handluggage then it's ok - as you say you may be asked to take the camera out of the bag to put it through the x-ray machine.

We always take a bag full of snacks with us - in case the on-board food is even more un-eatable than usual LOL

Last flight we had a large of peanuts - but as we took off there was an announcement that there was a child on board with a severe peanut allergy (even smell of peanuts would be enough to trigger a reaction!), and no one was allowed to eat any peanuts at all! So we ended up leaving them on the plane :)

We always take some food with us too Paul as I don't eat airline food.

Lat month as stansted all food items were being removed and checked by hand, sandwiches being gone though and crisps packets opened.

I hate airline food, i really dislike all of it so I take food with me, but when we fly I'll get it all air side, don't fancy eating it after someones fingers have been through it.

I always take food too, you never know what they'll serve on board. But be aware that you're not allowed to take fresh fruit or veg in so dump anything like that before landing. Callums favourite sweets are apple flavoured and these were picked up on in customs, after looking at them they let him through.

Had no problems at Manchester last Thursday, took our usual picnic thru security as I have not been happy with Virgins food for the past 3 or 4 trips. Pleasantly suprised onboard this time though chicken tikka or meatballs, both were edible.
