Pandora- World of Avatar 2017 Really?

I think this is going to be a spring opening personally and have said that a few times. It just seems to be shaping up rather fast, at least from what I can see from the outskirts. Of course that assumes everything else is gonig to line up but I can see disney wanting this opened before or very close to the water park at universal to lure people away and keep universal the day trip park...

I think during destination d we'll find out when they are really thinking. To not damage the fall attendance, November is kind of the perfect timing to announce that.

Unfortunately I also think this is going to bring in tons of people that aren't disney fans and really pack the place making us wish it was the frozen years again.

I respect your opinion...but I think the wishful thinking is pretty heavy on this one.

totally agree
couldnt be more right

look for a first half of the year opening

I was hoping it would open by Earth Day 2017 bc I am going to be there the week after that. I know Earth Day is AK's anniv. That would make sense if that was their original goal but I know setbacks happen with construction/design projects. Crossing my fingers that Sorcerer Mickey will make this happen for me! :smickey:

I was hoping Earth Day too! But I don't think they could finish everything before summer 2017
actually I think it could be pushed to the end of the year... idk

In the latest aerial photos it looks like no work has been done on the track for the water based ride. I assume this is because of the need to run heavy equipment over the ground in order to complete the floating mountains. One of the downsides of having highly integrated landscaped rides I suppose. I.e. the boats are supposed to wind in, around and through the major landscape features and partly thru the banshee ride show building.

I guess that whether the land can open within one year depends on whether they can complete a winding, indoor-outdoor boat ride similar to Jurassic Park River Adventure (without the major drop) in that time. Including queue, loading, track, lift, hydraulic engineering and audio animatronics.

Target goal was spring 2017 but from what I hear Summer 2017 is much more likely.

I was always under the impression that spring 2017 was the target. I don't recall where I read that, but it left that impression with me. There was a point where I thought a sneaky Christmas 2016 soft opening might be possible, but current information makes that seem pretty much impossible.

I doubt they will announce a date until they are 99% sure they can meet that date. It does really seem to be coming along now though. Makes me wonder why it was so slow before.

just a reminder J Cameron will be at the D 23 event at WDW in November probably will get some info

There were too many trees in the way/pictures taken too far back for me to tell how far along they are. Still believe something extremely dramatic would have to happen for it not to open in 2017

It's odd how rumors of really far fetched, long term, speculative and controversial projects are spilled all the time ... but fairly simple, concrete, uncontroversial and highly useful information like "when is Avatar likely to open" is almost embargoed.

The boat ride is in doors and the track is done as far as I know. There have been several permits over the last year for show set installation.

Got it, thanks. I was thinking of the old leaked blueprints from a few years ago which showed the boat ride "mostly" outside and only cutting through a corner of the show building. You can clearly see where the boat ride is going in the plans/photos below.

Yeah the plans changed from the first blueprints we saw. The boat ride is completely indoors.

If by current information makes that seem pretty much impossible, you mean no way in Hades Land that happens - I agree.

They are minimum 6 months away based on photos. Which puts it at late spring to early summer. So you know. Right on schedule.

I would also say there is too much sunk money in here for them not to get it open in the next fiscal year. That goes end of September. My bet is it opens by the end of 3rd quarter which would be June, and if delayed will definitely open by October 1st.

I agree or hope 6 months is correct-- however in my book 6 months from now is late winter early spring....
